Google launches bigger YouTube player
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- “Over the years we’ve heard a lot of feedback from you about what you’d like to change about YouTube, and the size of our video player is always top of mind,” says Google on its YouTube blog.
Over the years? What, like all two of them?
Anyhow, “That’s why today we’re excited to announce a bigger YouTube player,” warbles The YouTube Team.
“We’re expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them,” they say. “This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will provide you with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience. And don’t worry, your 4:3 aspect ratio videos will play just fine in this new player.”
But FiveStarCinema doesn’t think bigger is better.
“Wow at all these morons saying ‘OMG 16:9 are teh futurz!’ ” – s/he says, going on »»»
You have no idea what you’re talking about. The vast majority of videos on YT are 4:3, and a lot of them are manually letterboxed. Now that this 16:9 player has been forced upon us, all the 4:3 videos are either pillarboxed (very bad!) or windowboxed (even worse).
YouTube, let us choose which player to use when we upload a vid. All we need is a 16:9 and a 4:3 option when we are uploading a vid. A 16:10 option wouldn’t hurt either. You’re going to lose a lot of users if you try to force this change.
Make it optional.
Stay tuned.
