New Apple iPhone TV ad ban
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- “All the parts of the internet are on the iPhone,” Apple declared unequivocally in a UK TV advertisement.
But they’re not, according to complaints to Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority, said p2pnet, going on:
“The ad misleads consumers by over-hyping the unit’s Net capabilities, they said. So the agency has ordered the TV ad mustn’t be broadcast again in the same form.”
Now Apple is in trouble again over iPhony advertising.
Another TV ad for the company’s 3G iPhone has been banned by the ASA for, “misleading consumers over the internet capabilities of the smartphone,” says The Guardian, going on:
“Apple’s latest TV campaign, by ad agency TBWA/London, made claims that the iPhone could access the internet, and download content, ‘really fast’.”
But, “The ASA received 17 complaints that the ad was misleading for ‘exaggerating the speed of the iPhone 3G,” says the story.
Apple UK said the claims made in the ad were “relative rather than absolute in nature,” it adds.
But no worries, eh, Steve?
The ad had already done its thing and the likelihood of potential buyers spotting ASA decision would be really slim.
No need to stay tuned.
