Beatles iTunes deal falls through
p2pnet news view Music:- The Beatles, or should it be The Beatle, seems to have dashed plans to feature Beatles songs on iTunes.
Paul McCartney says negotiations with Apple have stalled, says The Guardian.
But, “The stumbling blocks for a Beatles iTunes rollout have more to do with EMI and Apple Corp. LTD., and not the computer company controlled by Steve Jobs,” says the story, quoting BillboardBiz which in turn quotes The Beatle saying EMI couldn’t agree with The Beatles (ie, McCartney), “on the terms that should be set for iTunes and other download services”.He was, “oblique about the exact points of contention”.
Oh Dear. Whatever shall we do?
But wait! There is an answer.
“Every song recorded by The Beatles, including various hard to find versions, has for years been available for free on the P2P networks,” p2pnet noted back in March when news of a possible Apple deal broke, going on:
Now, punters will be able to pay $1 and up (depending on where they are) for MP3s following an “expected” decision by Paul McCartney, “to release the Beatles back catalogue for download on the internet in a deal which could be worth up to £300 million,” as the Telegraph summed it up.

If one has as much lucre as Sir McCartney (or is that Lord McCartney?) I suppose one can afford to leave some cash (a LOT of cash) lying on the table. There’s precious few NEW Beatles fans being made…
As to P2P versions of Fab Four recordings, some of the bootleg stereo remasters of the early albums (which are not and will never be for sale) really do sound better than any of the commercial releases IMHO. Not all of them, but some are clearly superior mixes. Highly recommended for the hard core fan.
