Dec 8: Facebook ‘Goodbye Harper’ party

Mark is in Ontario and we’re in British Columbia. But that doesn’t matter because it’s an online event with Facebook as the venue.
It’ll be a Goodbye celebration for disgraced Tory leader George W. Harper.
With Canada and the rest of the world in a massive economic crisis, you thought Harper didn’t have an economic plan.
But he does, and he revealed it at the beginning of October.
It’s called The True North Strong and Free and, with a piano tinkling in the background, p2pnet posted at the time, and sitting comfortably in an armchair, “There’s no more exciting place for me as a Canadian than to go North,” Harper says in a YouTube video entitled, appropriately, The True North Strong and Free.

We’ve got real sovereignty and security challenges up there — we’ve got some environmental and social issues to deal with as well. But look: this is, ah, this is our frontier, this is what has defined us as Canadians, and, ah, we’re determined as a government that we’re going to make this country genuinely the true North strong and free.
The video closes with the rising chords of a full orchestra.
But he’s had to update his plan, of course and, according to the Facebook Goodbye to Harper party site, it now looks like this:
- Little in the way of economic stimulus, or support for forestry or manufacturing sectors
- Ban strikes for public unions until 2011; cancel all collective agreements
- Sell $2 billion in Canada’s assets for cash to create the illusion of a balanced budget
- Scrap (”modernize”) pay equity for women
- A plan to bankrupt opposition parties by cancelling the $1.95/vote public campaign financing. But, keep the public subsidy for political donations (from which the Conservatives get most of their cash).

Harper expected his bullying tactics would force the (majority) opposition parties into supporting his plan to bankrupt them, but they’ll form a coalition government and send him packing instead. This party is in honour of our departing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
This was originally scheduled for December 1st, but Harper cancelled opposition day that week. The cancellation of Monday’s “opposition day” is consistent with the general plan to smear & bankrupt all opposition to the Conservatives.
Being the party-pooper that he is, Harper might “prorogue” Parliament, i.e., cancel all sessions of the House of Commons. This would delay our party further. To prevent this, I need your help with some PRE-PARTY PREPARATIONS:
-Email or call your Member of Parliament and tell them you support the coalition
-Sign online petitions and letters to Stephane Dion & Jack Layton in support of the coalition
-Organize a grassroots campaign to help keep the coalition alive. Write a letter to the editor, or call in to a radio show. Let people know that Harper was rejected by the overwhelming 62% majority of Canadians and the opposition has a mandate to govern the country
-Join other pro-coalition facebook groups.
-Never forget that Harper tried to exercise uncompromising, dictatorial control of the country after being rejected by voters in 3 consecutive elections, most recently by 62% of voters, and has refused to compromise with opposition parties throughout his years as Prime MinisterWith your help, we’ll ensure that Harper’s going-away party on December 8th is a success!
