Google YouTube tightens censor rules
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Google’s YouTube has tightened its rules on what it thinks you should be able to watch, and what you shouldn’t.
When we keyed ‘nude’ into the YouTube search box at 8:13 am Pacific, the first three results were:
- Leaked: Megan Gale Nude
- Sexy Naked Nude Oil Lesbian Mixed Wrestling
- Nicole Kidman Nude Sex
If you want to see one or all of these videos, you have to pass a YouTube age verification test — and be a member, of course.
Would you classify Sexy Naked Nude Oil Lesbian Mixed Wrestling as ’sexually suggestive?’
Will Google/YouTube?
And if so, will it soon be a thing of the past?
Here’s a post from the official YouTube blog »»»
Our goal is to help ensure that you’re viewing content that’s relevant to you, and not inadvertently coming across content that isn’t. Here are a few things we came up with:
Stricter standard for mature content – While videos featuring pornographic images or sex acts are always removed from the site when they’re flagged, we’re tightening the standard for what is considered “sexually suggestive.” Videos with sexually suggestive (but not prohibited) content will be age-restricted, which means they’ll be available only to viewers who are 18 or older. To learn more about what constitutes “sexually suggestive” content, click here.
Demotion of sexually suggestive content and profanity – Videos that are considered sexually suggestive, or that contain profanity, will be algorithmically demoted on our ‘Most Viewed,’ ‘Top Favorited,’ and other browse pages. The classification of these types of videos is based on a number of factors, including video content and descriptions. In testing, we’ve found that out of the thousands of videos on these pages, only several each day are automatically demoted for being too graphic or explicit. However, those videos are often the ones which end up being repeatedly flagged by the community as being inappropriate.
Improved thumbnails – To make sure your thumbnail represents your video, your choices will now be selected algorithmically. You’ll still have three thumbnails to choose from, but they will no longer be auto-generated from the 25/50/75 points in the video index.
More accurate video information – Our Community Guidelines have always prohibited folks from attempting to game view counts by entering misleading information in video descriptions, tags, titles, and other metadata. We remain serious about enforcing these rules. Remember, violations of these guidelines could result in removal of your video and repeated violations will lead to termination of your account.
Now you know.

“YouTube age verification test”
An actual test? Or ‘old’ enough to try sliding a year-born drop down list to the bottom to see if that works. Mabey better a button ‘yes i am 18+’ (Hmm is the states, no porn until 21?)

Uh, it’s not even that much of a “test”, actually. It’s just a click-box that says “confirm birth-date”.
My problem with this is the same problem I have with ALL forms of “appropriate content” fetishism: namely, who the hell are YOU (insert miscelaneous wannabe ‘authority-figure’) to decide?” When school libraries ban “innapropriate” bookx, or when our Overlords decide in their infinite wisdom that children’s fragile little minds would be irreparably scarred by the mere sight of Janet Jackson’s breast, we should all at least pause for a moment and reflect on the fact that we’re still so mindlessly primitive as to believe that the mere sight or mention of something is enough to damage “right-thinking” people.
Here it is, the early 21st century, and “tribal taboos” are alive and well. “The N-Word”, “Wardrobe malfunctions”, political-correctness, banning “innapropriate” books — it’s all the same shit, and it’s all evil.
We — rightly — laugh at the notion that during the 1900s women who showed their legs in public could be fined for “indecency”, and — if we’re worth survival as a culture — our descendants will laugh at the mindless hysteria over “Wardrobe malfunctions”.
I’ve got a great idea for a bumper-sticker: “The only REAL ‘obscenity’ is censorship”.
Any thoughts?

Its funny how there is an age verification test at youtube but searching clips at google video turns up hard core porn and there is no age verification.
