AT&T to kill user Flickr Pro accounts

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- AT&T recently emailed its Net subscribers. But it wasn’t to tell them about an exciting new service.

Instead, the missive informed them the company is killing their Flickr Pro accounts as of January 31.

“On top of their recently announced low caps, it’s almost like they’re trying to drive people away,” says dslreports reader lev, who reported the move.

Says the email, quoted in dslreports »»»

If you’d like to keep your Flickr Pro account you can renew your Flickr Pro account for $24.95 per year. There’s more information here:* »www.flickr.com/upgrade/

Thank you for using AT&T Internet Service and Yahoo!. We look forward to serving your Internet needs for many years to come.

Verizon just informed customers they’d no longer be receiving a number of perks with broadband service, including free Flickr Pro accounts,” but users, “will be seeing more ads,” says lev, adding:

“Users over at Flickr aren’t particularly happy, a Flickr employee vaguely telling grumpy users the shift is ‘because of changes to the relationship between AT&T and Yahoo, and Verizon and Yahoo.’ It’s not clear if the business relationship broke down, but it’s very possible that Yahoo simply wanted more money.”

If you don’t pay, “Pro accounts revert to regular accounts,” observes CNet News, saying:

“Subscribers in that circumstance don’t lose any photos, but they do lose the Flickr Pro perks, which include the ability to see more than the last 200 photos that have been uploaded, unlimited uploads, unlimited numbers of photo collections called sets, ad-free browsing, and the ability to view full-size images.”

(Thanks, Kevin)
