8,000 Sony employees lose their jobs
p2pnet news view | Products:- Some 8,000 Sony Corp employees around the world are out of work, or soon will be.
As part of what it’s calling a, “series of measures to strengthen its corporate structure and bolster profitability,” by March 31, 2010, it plans to, “reduce headcount in the electronics business worldwide by approximately 8,000, out of approximately 160,000 as of September 30, 2008,” it says, going on:
“At the same time, Sony plans to reduce headcount in its seasonal and temporary workforces.”
It’ll also, “realign domestic and overseas manufacturing sites, reallocate its workforce and reduce headcount,” it says.
Sony said in October its operating profit, “plunged 90 percent in the second quarter of the financial year, hit by a surging yen, a weak global economy and intense price competition,” says Agence France-Presse, adding:
“The electronics icon has endured a difficult spell in the face of tough competition from rival products such as Apple’s iPod and Nintendo’s Wii.”

Fire employees, reduce the quality of products sold, raise upper-management pay, etc. Why do businesses ever think these will increase profits? If Sony wants money, perhaps they should create a product someone wants to buy, rather than trying to force people to buy it.
Hopefully, Bush doesn’t try to bail out Sony. I hope Sony, Microsoft, Exxon Mobile, and most of the other Scum Industries go bankrupt.

I hoped the pinch for money would have come far earlier for Sony after their little show of how little they thought of their customers with the rootkit affair.
For my own personal actions, I will not buy Sony and have been of that opinion now for far longer than the rootkit affair time.
I was put off first by the fact that Sony requires all floorsalesmen that handle their products, whether they work for Sony or not, to sign nondisclosure statements that in essence say those salesmen will never say bad about Sony. That means you will never get the true opinions of those that deal with the hardware and what they see day to day. That in turn means there is a reason Sony is wanting to hide this or it would not be a concern to the extent they have gone.
The main reason is that at one time, I really believed in Sony equipment as being good, several decades ago. Everything I bought at the time was Sony. Then one day I had the experience of dealing with the warranty for an expensive projection tv I had bought. The fix was far less than satisfactory, especially considering what I had paid for it.
From that day forward, Sony went on the list of people I will not buy products from. They can run their business however they see fit. Experiences like mine ensure that over time, more and more will not be repeat buyers. I will never be a customer of Sony again.

Bush? It’s the Dems pushing for this sort of bailout just as much as anybody else.
Maybe corrupt Obama can be bought? His friends sure can be. Oh, except he doesn’t know them. . .just some guy in the neighborhood. . .

It couldn’t be anything to do with them suing their potential customers could it? Or perhaps the inclusion of invasive and deleterious rootkits on music cd’s?
