Google Chrome flunks password security test
p2pnet news view Security | Advertising:- It looks as though Dan Tynan was right to ditch Google’s Chrome.
It’s full of holes.
Earlier, “I should have something for you shortly
,” said Robert Chapin in an email.
He runs Chapin Information Services, an enterprise famous for finding serious problems in vaunted corporate applications.
To briefly digress “Google advertising honey-trap Chrome is apparently coming out of beta,” p2pnet posted on Wednesday, continuing:
“The open source browser has been in beta, but it’s about to be officially unleashed and will probably, ’spur bundling with Google Toolbar and Google Apps,”’ says TechCrunch.
“Last September, Google Chrome came into my life,” says Tynan on Culture Crash.
He admitted he was totally infatuated, going on »»»
So I made a difficult decision. I made Chrome my default. I committed.
Things went great for a while. Then they began to change. Chrome became moody and unstable. She didn’t like the scroll wheel on my mouse. She refused to save my Web pages as text files. She couldn’t remember my log-ons and passwords, no matter how many times I wrote them down for her.
And — I don’t know how to put this delicately — she stopped putting out. Sometimes video would play, sometimes it wouldn’t. Yet the same Web video displayed just fine when I came back to you.
I tried to tell myself that Chrome’s just a beta, she’ll grow out of it, give her time. Then I looked at her older sisters, Gmail and Froogle. And her brother Lively, may he rest in peace. Train wrecks, the lot of them. I guess that’s just how it is when rich parents spoil their kids.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m sorry. I’ve been a cad, and I know it. But I’ll do anything to make it right. I’ll contribute to the Mozilla Foundation. I’ll take down that poster of Larry and Sergey dressed as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Whatever you want. Name it and it’s yours.
Please. Will you forgive me? I want to come home.
Back to the present, will the shiny new un-beta Chrome tempt Tynan back into its arms?
Not if he takes in what Chapin has to say. Because, “Google Chrome Receives Lowest Password Security Score,” he says, also noting Apple’s Safari ties for the not-primo Last Place.
“Google’s new web browser may be fast and slim, but the password management features it offers are full of bugs,” states Chapin.

Google Chrome is the only PM that strictly adheres to the criteria for autocomplete by disabling itself, Chapin notes, adding:
“Firefox 3.0.4 will avoid filling a password when the page loads, but the PM remains attached to password fields for filling passwords.”
You can take your browser for a test drive over at the CIS website.
Stay tuned.
