Steve Jobs pulls out of Macworld show
p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- In 2004 Apple boss Steve Jobs was said to have recovered from what he’d described as a “very rare form of pancreatic cancer called an islet cell neuroendocrine tumor”.
In July rumours were circulating he was once again ill and, “The latest flurry of talk was set off on Monday when, in a conference call after the release of Apple’s earnings, a company executive responded to a question about Mr. Jobs’s condition by saying that it was ‘a private matter’,” said the New York Times, going on, “But in recent weeks, Mr. Jobs has reassured several people that he is doing well ”
Now, the word is out that Jobs won’t be giving the keynote address at IDG World Expo’s Macworld, “the technology show that has become a key event for Apple enthusiasts,” says Times Online.
“The company also said that after 2009, it would no longer participate in Macworld.”
The news, “unleashed a fresh bout of speculation among Apple fans about Mr Jobs’ health, which has been the subject of close scrutiny in the last few years,” it says, continuing:
“Mr Jobs has delivered the keynote address at Macworld since 1997. Over a two-hour period, Mr Jobs would typically roam the stage, discussing and revealing details on new products.
“In recent months, more and more of these public duties have been handed to subordinates. Apple executives have said they have a succession plan in place, but have not publicly discussed it.”
Says Jason Snell on Macworld UK
Who knows the real reason for the exit of Jobs from the keynote? There are a nearly unlimited number of reasons that don`t involve the man`s medical history. Maybe there simply weren`t any earth-shattering products ready. Maybe someone at IDG offended someone at Apple. Maybe a product that was intended for release at Expo has been delayed, either for technical reasons or because today`s economy would make it a bad time to launch a new product.
Meanwhile, “Commenting on the announcement, Time magazine wrote that it ‘was about as shocking as hearing that Barack Obama would be skipping the Inauguration and sending Joe Biden in his stead’,” observes Times Online.
Stay tuned.
