Kidman plays didgeridoo, upsets Aboriginals
p2pnet news view | TV:- When Oz acress Nicole Kidman was in Germany over the weekend, she took a shot a playing the didgeridoo, possibly Australia’s most famous musical instrument.
She, “blew feebly” into it during a promot on Wetten, Dass …?, “a high-rating German program known for its high jinks,” says the Sydney Morning Herald.
However, the didge is also an important element in traditional Aboriginal ceremonies and the, “light-hearted stunt flouted Aboriginal custom in many parts of Australia, where women are forbidden to play the instrument,” says the story, adding:
“Richard Green, an award-winning actor, screenwriter and Dharug language teacher, said he was disgusted.
” ‘People are going to see Nicole playing it and think it’s all right. It bastardises our culture. I will guarantee she has no more children. It’s not meant to be played by women as it will make them barren.’
Green is afraid other women might imitate Kidman without realising its dangers, says the SMH.

What next? The fact that she didn’t wear a Hijab probably “offended” some really traditional muslim guy, too. When did our so-called “civilization” come to the decision that we’ve got to pander to every kind of repressive idiocy, simply because it happens to be part of somebody’s “culture”.
Doesn’t this guy understand that ethnic prejudice against darker-skinned people tends to be part of a lot of White people’s “culture”? Or how about lower-caste people in India? They had institutionalized oppression for thousands of years, all as part of their “culture”.
The “we’re offended because it defiles our culture” argument has exactly ONE valid answer: fuck you.
Hell, this should’ve sparked a flurry of videos of women playing the damn thing, just to tweak this asshole’s sensibilities.
Or are we now going to scrap the vaunted notions about “basic human rights” just because somebody’s “culture” might be offended?
I suggest that women begin playing the digeridoo en masse. If this asshole is right, the rise in “barren-ness” could be a good fix for the population problem as well.

^^ I play didge and it’s a very cool, very relaxing instrument.
My wife tried it a couple of times — and we have a daughter. So …………
But then none of my didges were made in Oz. Maybe that’s it
Cheers!
