EA drops Vancouver studio plans
p2pnet news view | Games:- EA Black Box, founded when Electronic Arts acquired Black Box Games in 2002, became an independent EA studio three years later.
“In March 2003, the firm decided that they lacked space for their current projects so the top four floors of an office tower in downtown Vancouver were used for expansion,” says Games Focus, going on, “Since its founding, EA Black Box has been home to the Need for Speed franchise, among others.”
Now EA has abandoned its plans for a new studio in Vancouver.
Quoting the Globe and Mail, “slow seasonal sales in both North America and Europe, along with concerns about the state of the world’s economy at the moment, has led to the plans being dropped,” says Games Dog.
“The studio was set to be a 20,000 square foot facility in Yaletown, adding to EA’s already sizeable Vancouver operation including Black Box and EA Canada studios.”
