Pay public interest groups, Bell Canada told

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:-  Three groups qualify for cost awards in full in Bell Canada vs its own users.

And Bell has been ordered by the CRTC to foot the bill for by far the greatest share.

Bell launched an all-out traffic throttling war against smaller ISPs represented by CAIP (Canadian Association of Internet Providers),  and ordinary customers, claiming it was forced into it by people who use P2P file sharing applications, said p2pnet recently, going on »»»

But this time the fight centers on costs, not Bell Canada’s attack on Net neutrality, or its practice of “managing” the bandwidth it’s selling to its users.

The Quebec Union des Consommateurs kicked things off by filing a claim of $14,950.00.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC), acting for the Consumers Council of Canada (CCC), and National Anti-Poverty Organization (NAPO),  followed up with a claim of $13,709.38.

Then the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC) demanded $10,355.00.

This brings it to $39,014.38 by public interest groups so far. But you can bet the $39K isn’t the end of it. And the groups — all of them — want the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) to order Bell Canada to pay up.

In full.

The money wouldn’t even amount to pocket change for Canada’s largest ISP. Nonetheless, it’s saying CAIP (Canadian Association of Internet Providers), “given its level of interest and participation in this proceeding,” should pay a third.

Now, “The Commission notes that it has often allocated the responsibility for the payment of costs among respondents based on the respondents’ telecommunications operating revenues, as reported in their most recent audited financial statements,” says the CRTC Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission), going on:

“The Commission also notes that CAIP has, relative to Bell Canada, a very small share of the telecommunication revenues. However, the Commission considers that CAIP’s contribution should be meaningful. The Commission therefore concludes that the responsibility for the payment of costs should be allocated as follows:

  • Bell Canada – 80%
  • CAIP – 20%

Stay tuned.

  1. blah Says:

CAIP shouldn’t have to pay a thing.
Not like they had a choice in going to the CRTC, and they themselves were a public interest group in this matter.

  2. ispy Says:

It’s been said on dslreports many times that CAIP and all it’s participants should bill Bell for all loses from the beginning and it should be for all losses. Too bad they didn’t listen and now they are getting the royal run around. What CAIP’s actions/inactions also did is put their customers and all Canadians at risk of being screwed even further.

Now what’s going to happen is Harper will instill ACTA along with the rest of regulations and we can kiss the free Internet good bey. This will also take away most freedoms we have enjoyed to this point. As usual Canadians are sheep and can’t stand up to wolves properly that are running the farm.

If you add WTO, IMF, SPP, EU and the rest it’s going to be one big police state and maybe worse than concentration camps of Nazis.

  3. so Says:

What to do, then, to save the world? Get a gun, etc? Run for office? I’m seriously at a loss; the politicians do not listen to the people, so what can the people do but revolt?

  4. Serge Says:

So. CAIP sued Bell. Bell won but had to pay 80% of CAIP’s costs. This is about the other 20%. Yes?

  5. ispy Says:

@ Serge … hardly :( it’s about Everything, present situation to this point and beyond. Mainly for our future and especially our kid’s future :)

Up to this point Canadians have been mostly sitting on their butts being lazy, too busy with other things or too blind to connect the dots. Before I get shot online I complement the ones that who have stood up!

Whoever the users are that posted “We demand” during last election, on dlsreports about everyone billing and charging Bell or taking them to small claims “past and present customers”, infiltrating and exposing all and various corporations and gov., ongoing protests in and in front of these “tyrants”, continually mailing gov., even civil disobedience, “because they have declared WAR on us” then these are the users that you should heed and take to heart.

These users seem to be in the know or part of the system, yet they give you “hints” since probably they are in positions where their jobs, careers, family or other factors are in jeopardy. It takes a lot of guts to come out with statements against the established powers and not get jailed for life or snuffed. They are perfectly in the right to get on and post messages and disappear into the woodwork, yet they give us all the information we need to fight powers that be and hope of a better future.

It’s not a game when some of these Canadians and foreigners have disappeared, ended up dead or in so called accidents just when they are about to testify or about to bring us full disclosure.
As George Carlin said (bless his soul): Ever wonder why the people that want to bring us peace and love are assassinated? (not a direct quote)
Eisenhower: beware of the industrial military complex …
Kennedy: there is a power so sinister , so evil and so secret …
and “Wake up America … ”

These people died for telling you this, all of us this. Get it through your thick skulls! This is not some other countries phenomenon. It’s a world situation of being taken over by powers that want to kill off as many as need be to keep their power. Are Bush’s an Harper’s actions not enough to get users to wake up and smell the coffee?

Only with continuous peaceful pressure and exposing their every secret will we win and create a better life on Earth. If by chance there are aliens out there then universal peace as well.

We are not some slaves the powers that be (shills) can just rule, abuse or kill off at their will. Each one of us is a Sovereign Human Being with “Universal Rights” which you are not being told about. “Fight for your rights (peacefully) or loose them.” Build up your personal power through health, good food, positive sacred ancient knowledge, history, good honest people and to the point where you can laugh at fear and take down 20 of them to one of us.

There’s a very big reason why the Internet is being attacked by shills: It’s the best tool for organizing such dissent and the shills know it.

Put the pieces together that users have come out with and see what you’re up against and spread the word and even to back woods cabins. Create your strategies and implement them. Use the shill’s powers against them. Be that Sovereign Human Being as you are meant to be.

If it can be done against Cult of Scientology if can easily be done against those shills.

Back into the woodwork … ;)
