Telus problems with Alberta 587
p2pnet news view | Mobiles:- Alberta has a new area code, used mainly for cellphones.
But Joey Lindstrom isn’t happy with it, as he points out in the p2pnet Reader’s Write below.
He, “requested a 587 area code on the Telus Mobility network in September, when the new telephone prefix that covers all of Alberta was introduced,” says the Calgary Sun. But, “I’ve had nothing but problems with it right from the get-go,” the story as him saying.
How come?
“International callers and those on the Telus Mobility network in Canada trying to reach his 587 number are typically rejected with a rapid busy signal, said Lindstrom,” says the story. Yet, “those calling from a Canadian landline or another mobile network are easily able to get through to his new cell number.”
“What’s up with that?” – Lindstrom wonders. Telus, “can’t even route to their own numbers?”
According to Telus spokesman Chris Gerritsen, “There are no systemic problems with 587 calls in Alberta,” says the Calgary Sun.
But, “Lindstrom disagrees, saying he received a second cell number with the 587 prefix last week and it’s also troublesome,” it adds.

It’s true – Telus has completely screwed this up.

It goes
landline; Country Code + State Code + Area Code + Number
mobile; Country Code + (Sometimes is required) State code + Number
Area code is not required for mobiles because they are not fixed =P
maybe your International callers are not dialling the correct sequence
