Hate emails
p2pnet news view | P2P:- Hi all:
I get five or six emails a month (and sometimes more) complaining about p2pnet, how I handle it, the stories I post, and so on. Some are simply making a point, which is fine, and some are just plain nasty.
I just started reading one such, full of hate and vitriol.
These kinds of emails always have one thing in common: no one ever has the courage to sign them.
p2pnet isn’t a business. It’s a personal page. It is not, and has never claimed to be, impartial. It started out as a music site and became what it is today by accident.
It doesn’t matter how many people click an ad, or don’t click. I get a flat monthly rate, and that’s it. Without the ads (three of which are free), and regular contributions from an anonymous donor, p2pnet wouldn’t be here.
I shouldn’t allow myself to get upset by hate mail, but every once in a while …
Anyway, “p2pnet.net went online in August, 2002,” I say here. “It was the first Internet web page to carry daily, frequently updated news, stories, features and commentaries on digital media, distributed computing and associated technologies and events which haven`t been spun, filtered and pre-digested by vested corporate interests.
“It places special emphasis on freedom of speech, P2P and sharing.”
And that’s the way it is.
Cheers! And thanks for letting me rant.
Jon

jon:
I get nasty emails (and, more often, pissy comments) all the time. sometimes it seems like that’s why the Net was invented — so a**holes can take their rage out on the world without being held accountable for it.
don’t let the bastards get you down. and keep up the good work.
cheers,
dt

Keep up the good work Jon. There are many of us that appreciate all that you do. Your bias is my bias (let’s face it) and I wouldn’t visit everyday if you changed a whisker. LOL

I feel you throw out the baby with the bathwater , while you have very good (and true) points , you lose them with to much twisted bias and basic fact twisting . It allows people to be dismissive of you and accuse you of being of manipulative of statistics as the people you are writing about . Being unable to see the `enemies` point of view , unable to read sentences without twisting it to what you want it to say no matter what it actually says , blinded by pure hate , unable to say “thats a good point” leaves people intentionally ignorant and naive .
Im sure that some will read what Ive written and accuse me of being a troll or record/film company plant and that would be the irony .

Ever since I’ve found your site, I’ve made it “must read” on a daily basis. You post interesting articles and information that isn’t easily found elsewhere (more so earlier, but now people are finally picking up on some of it). And I appreciate your attitude towards corporate and big business shams and tomfoolery, as I share the same outlook. Basically, just want to encourage you to keep up the great work! Cheers and Happy New Year!

Followed you over here from your last place, Jon. I’m still here. I’m here because I find news at your site I don’t always find in other places. (some I do) I enjoy your comments because they are in line with my values.
There are always going to be trolls. Those that are just too chicken in real life to say what they want to say but the anonymity allows them to be faceless and show their jealousy while not admitting the real reason is they wish they could do half as well but have neither the talent, nor the sources. Since they can’t measure up to the bar, their only other solution is to try and drag someone else down to their level. Doesn’t’ say much for the mailer does it?
I would take it as a badge of pride you poked them in the ribs enough to get a response at all. Do you have any idea (and I am sure you do) how many sites try to provoke the readership out of lurking and into discussions of any sort. So you have what? Possibly 3 or 4 that respond with jabs because they are jealous, claim exception, and figure they got a bone to pick? That’s not a bad ratio when you think about it and look at the readership per article.
It’s that near immeasurable minority that think they know better than you with your years on the job of doing it, how it should be run. Funny they aren’t running their own site, isn’t it. Face it, lots of people would like to have their own site but they’ve not the temperament, ability, nor knowledge on how to do so. Nor do they have the fairness principal that allows others that don’t agree to make comment and it remain. I’ve seen you bend over backwards, far farther than I would, to allow the disenchanted to say their piece.
So yes, this is the home page. As long as I remain interested it will remain so. It’s went on for several years now. So there is a vast nonvocal majority that read your articles and words you don’t hear a lot about. It’s just the penny-pissers you hear anything from.
Keep up the good work, it’s another great new year coming with all sorts of new possibilities.

As the vast majority of the other responders have said, keep on doing what you’re doing, Jon. I wish more bloggers had your integrity and guts.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
I just fell off of my chair.
Someone hasn’t been payin a lot of attention to the ultimate masters of fact twisting.
The RIAA lawyers.
Visit ray beckermans site to see who REALLY twists the facts.

Jon, by writing an article about them, you feed them; It’s best to deprive trolls and envious types of nutrition.

It all adds up to respect, most have it and some don’t. Eventually what comes round goes around and when it does it does by truck loads and usually from left field.
In this world of instant communications only truth and trust matter. By opening up news on P2P and other subjects it’s a given that this site is catching flack, mostly from ones who just don’t want to change or realize the truth. Just by their raising a ruckus they are paying attention, which is a good thing. The more they complain the more of an affect you are having and the more they hate it
By stating your opinion you are adding a human touch, which most mainstream sites lack. Keep it up
side note: whistle blowers are on the rise

” basic fact twisting . ”
Please show us specific, quoted examples of fact twisting by Jon.
Cite specific examples and link to them if you would.
I would like to see exactly which facts have been twisted.
I’ll wait.

Thanks for what you do. Even though you are “biased,” you are doing what was intended by the founders of the United States when they wrote the First Amendment. You are informing the public of corruption in “high places.” The world needs more folks like you. If I had more funds to contribute to your cause, they would be in the mail as we speak. You do great work! Thank you

Hi there Jon
I make it a point to read your blog every day and have told others about your site and they have all come back to me and stated they had a wonderful time reading and made it a daily must. Ignore the ignorant they do more harm by showing they are fools to themselves, than they ever can do to someone who actually does have a few home truths to shoot home. You keep up the good fight and I’ll just keep on having an enjoyable read.
