Hoder Derakhshan arrest confirmed

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Hossein ‘Hoder’ Derakhshan, 33, a Canadian citizen often called the father of the Iranian blogosphere, is under close arrest in Iran.

The news was released by Iran revolutionary court spokesman Ali Reza Jamshidi in Tehran, says the CBC, going on, “International human rights groups and media reports said Derakhshan, a former Toronto resident, was arrested on Nov. 1.”

Hoder is facing the death penalty in Iran charged with spying for Israel, said the Middle East News Service.

“Jahan News, an Iranian website affiliated with Iran’s intelligence community, reported on Monday that he admitted to spying for Israel,” says the story.

Now,  “His case is in a preliminary investigative stage at a revolutionary court and he is currently in incarceration at a jail in Tehran,” the CBC has Jamishid saying, “giving no further explanation of the charges against Derakhshan”.

Canadian-Iranian journalist/blogger and friend Hossein Derakhshan was arrested this month in Tehran, allegedly on charges of spying for the Israeli government.

Hossein took a highly publicized trip to Israel a few years back which he blogged about, garnering much attention from Israeli media.

The object of Hossein’s visit to Israel in 2007 was to show his countrymen Israel’s human face and to detoxify relations between the two peoples after Ahmadinejad called for Israel’s elimination.

“I want to humanize Israel for Iranians and tell them it’s not what the Islamic propaganda machine is saying – that Israelis are thirsty for Muslim blood, he said. And I want to show Israel that the average Iranian isn’t even thinking about doing harm to Israel. I want them to see Iranians who don’t look like Ahmadinejad.”

This is a very serious issue as the Iranian government has recently executed another man for allegedly spying for Israel, Mr. Ali Ashtari. Also, when peoplewillingly confes they often do so under extreme duress.

Help by spreading the word to anyone you know, friends, relatives, officials, journalists, activists, etc. Or write articles for other newspapers and get the word out.

Stay tuned.
