Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie bomb
p2pnet news view | Mobiles:- Deeply affected Cult of Scientology spokesman Tom Cruise was apparently “deeply moved” when playing WWII hero Colonel Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, who in 1944 tried to rid the world of Hitler, he told Bunte magazine, according to the Associated Press, going on:
“Von Stauffenberg and other conspirators were rounded up and executed by firing squad — a fate which Cruise said saddened but also inspired him.”
It’s, “bound to be rubbish,” 72-year-old Berthold Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (right), a retired German army officer and the oldest of Claus von Stauffenberg’s five children, said of
“It is unpleasant for me that an avowed Scientologist will be playing my father,” he told the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung in an interview, said Der Spiegel.
“I fear that only terrible kitsch will come out of the project.”

The bedevilling thing about making movies based on history is engaging an audience that knows exactly how it will end. Which is not to say it can’t work. We knew the boat was going down from the get-go in Titanic, yet James Cameron’s suspenseful, romantic epic not only carried us along, it broke box office records doing it.
The same can’t be said for Valkyrie, where history tells us the 1944 plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler by a band of German officers will fail.
The fault rests partly with the script and a slow, awkward initial half-hour the movie never recovers from, but more with star Tom Cruise, who sinks this historical thriller as surely as an iceberg in the North Atlantic took out the Titanic.
Cruise has mistakenly chosen to convey plot leader Col. Claus von Stauffenberg’s military bearing and strength of will with acting so rigid and wooden it’s painful to watch. The contrast with the German officers played by a superb supporting cast — Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and Terence Stamp among them — only makes Cruise look worse.
It’s like watching a stiff-legged colt try to keep up with a stable of thoroughbreds.
No need to stay tuned.

Bert Stauffenberg rather looks like L. Ron Hubbard.

I liked it. Cruise played the stoic stauffenberg admirably. It seems to be a popular trend these days to deride anything tom cruise related. Instead, I prefer to judge a film based on it’s merits.

^^ Exactly.

I find it funny that everyone’s making a big deal over Cruise… when the real story would have been if Operation Valkyrie worked.
Had it worked, and Hitler dead, a group would have taken over Nazi Germany and made the war even more deadly, making us no doubt living under a Nazi rule now.
Mind you, with the way the RIAA/ MPAA are headed…

Well according to the film, they wanted peace, something which hitler would never accept.

Holy EllRon – Stauffenberg didn’t want to blow the Fuhrer away because he thought, Hitler was a bad guy. He simply recognized that the war was lost anyway. So he wanted to stop it before Allies got total control over Third Reich. Earlier, he was as Nazi as anybody else in his position. BTW – blowing away someone who was elected with democratic means, isn’t this – ehm – supposed to be called like – uhm, what cna I say – an act of terrorism…?

Since Tome Cruise has been brainwashed by the cult of scientology he can no longer act anymore nor produce a good film. How sad.
Tom! Leave this scientology BS ASAP! This think is detroying you!
Become a Boudhist instead.

“blowing away someone who was elected with democratic means, isn’t this – ehm – supposed to be called like – uhm, what cna I say – an act of terrorism…?”
No sir. An act of terrorism is when an handful of individus attack and kill innocent people who have nothing to do with nothing to try to bend another party. Killing Hilter would not have been an act of terrorism but the only way to save million of lives.
It would be like killing Ben Laden or Ariel Sharon or Polpot or Stalin or Milochevic or PInochet or some sionist members of the Israeli governement. That would not be terrorist.
Terrorism is what the Isareli governement is doing right now in Gaza or to a lesser extend what the Hamas is doing to the civilian Juish poipulation arround. This is terrorism.
These guys never learn that terrorism never work because when you attack the inocents to punish the bad guys the bad guys does not give a shit since they are bad. You have to attack them directly.
If someone is killed after comitting attrocities I am very sure that they will be a lot less candidate for this type of activities.

@ Reader’s Write
Sorry, Sir! Just tried to be sarcastic on the term “terrorism”, which is being used in an exaggerated manner today. No doubt that all the Hitlers, Stalins, Pol Pots and so on are the real terrorists. Also rigid cults like Scientology try to discredit their critics as terrorists. Didn’t make this clear. My fault!

I saw the movie this afternoon and i have booked to see it again at the Gold Class in two weeks time – the movie would not have done much for me if not for Tom Cruise’s HUGE screen presence. Cruise’s acting ability is just as powerful and it ridiculous some people have decided to not watch the movie because he is passionate about his beliefs. Bravo and Encore Tom!

Stauffenberg was a Goddamned traitor! Every member of the German military was sworn to loyalty not to Germany, but to Adolf Hitler, Stauffenberg included. Stauffenberg got a better death than he deserved–
