MS Zune 30s freezing everywhere, ’simultaneously’
p2pnet news view Music | Mobiles:- Microsoft Zune 30s seem to be failing left right and centre — and all at the same time.
“At approximately 12:00 midnight eastern standard time, on December 31st, 2008, Zune 30’s across the world simultaneously went to the boot screen and stayed there, frozen,” says the Wikipedia, going on »»»
Some believe the problem stems from the recent 3.1 update. Victims are giving the event many names, among them Y2K9, Z2K, and the December 31st, 2008 Zune Meltdown.
A response from Microsoft is pending.
Gizmodo says it’s, “getting tons of reports — tons” about the players seizing up.
The crisis has been dubbed by Zune users Z2K9, “due to the apparently synchronized faceplantings across the country,”it states.
“I checked out ZuneBoards, seems to be a huge problem w/the Zune 30’s,” says The Dark Side, an anythingbutipod moderator: “This is definitely not good for M$!!!”
Definitely.
“If not for the uniform representation of events across the internet, I’d be tempted to suspect this as a hoax, but it just doesn’t look that way,”says Gizmodo, adding:
“The story, assuming the described problem is of the magnitude reported, will probably take a turn for the large when the majority of Zuners start waking up.”
It was a Leap Year glitz, says Microsoft.

This is NOT a hoax, it is freaking reality. Took mine to work after purchasing music off the flippin zune site last night and syncing without any idea that there was an issue. Went to use at work this morning, and it froze like everybody else’s 30 gb. Purchased mine back in 2006 so the warrany is gone. I would really like to see how Microsoft is going to handle this.

From some of the posts I’m reading the problem may be associated with syncing and thus computer or maybe server time/date rather than the internal Zune time/date. So, with any luck the problem might fix itself once all the dates click to 2009. But who knows …
Good luck to all on this, especially kids who got these for Christmas.
