RIAA lawyer in top Obama government job
p2pnet news view | RIAA News:- Everyone in the P2P community is hoping for a New Beginning with Barrack Obama as America’s new president.
They’re hoping he’ll redress the grievous wrongs perpetrated by the entertainment industries on their customers, and help bring about a climate of trust instead of fear.
They’re also hoping the appointment of Tom Perrelli, managing partner at Jenner & Block, one of the RIAA’s favourite law firms, and a former employer of Matt ‘The Dentist‘ Oppenheim, doesn’t signal a continuation of the bad old ways, and a sop to the Big 4 record labels, Vivendi Universal (France), Sony BMG (Japan and Germany), EMI (Britain), and Warner Music (US).
Perrelli, “regularly represents the recording industry [tread RIAA] in cutting-edge intellectual property, technology, and anti-piracy litigation,” says his bio.
He’s also worked for the RIAA in other lawsuits against individual file sharers, says CNET News.
“One filed in Michigan accuses a university student of distributing “hundreds of sound recordings over his system without the authorization of the copyright owners.” A lawsuit against a Princeton University student makes similar arguments; Perrelli and his colleagues also tried to force Charter Communications to give up the names of 93 file-trading subscribers.
Perrelli has been named deputy assistant attorney general
Definitely stay tuned.

Ask Obama about this nomination on change.gov site. Many would be interested to know why.

Lawyers (and ) switch positions all the time, according who is paying them. Basically they are souless employees who are in the profession only to make money. I would not be surprised if this lawyer switches position or has no say in matters related to the music industry or copyright.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
“change” = no change
The President of the Unites States is only one man and one small piece of a much larger system. Because of that, Obama is doing everything in his power to keep the political conservatives content. It shouldn’t be surprising to people.
