Kisses and hugs at Macworld
p2pnet news view | Products:- “Once the Nuremberg Rally of the Apple faithful who were whipped to a frenzy by their Messiah Steve Jobs, MacWorld has become the Women’s Institute Meeting of technology gatherings,” says Nick Farrell in The Inquirer, going on:
“A mate of the INQ was sitting in the press room the other day. He said he had the only PC in the place. All the other hacks were looking at him strangely as they sipped their Apple Kool Aid and cut and pasted the press releases from the various Apple suppliers into their various columns. Well that is thinking different.
“But without Jobs showing up there was nothing really interesting to report.”
There’s, “no doubt that Apple’s last keynote at Macworld was a big let down so to get over it I decided to take a wander around the hallowed halls of the expo itself,” says the BBC’s Magie Shiels.
Apple, “dominated the space with a massive array of demos and products,” she says.
What a surprise.
After describing various displays, “The best booth at the whole of Macworld was that manned by three teenagers,” she declares — a kissing booth, a per the clip from a BBC pic.
Melissa Benzo, Kate Vasconcellos and Alex Little had, “set out on a mission to spread some sunshine and happiness to the folks of Macworld,” says Sheils, adding, “Alas it seemed the Mac faithful didn’t want to be cheered up because they had only raised $3 by giving out kisses and attempts to give away free hugs were not whole heartedly embraced.
“We want to brighten everyone’s day,” declared an exuberant Alex. “The world is so serious. Everyone at Macworld is so serious. We just want to make people happy.”
Kate and Melissa agreed and said “we are having fun and it’s all about the hugs.”
This year’s Macworld, “had all the feel of a company making a big transition from one era to the next,” says Chris O’Brien in the Mercury News.
“For this next phase of the company’s history, it certainly doesn’t need the big stage offered by a Macworld. Such a setting creates too many expectations and forces the company to produce on someone else’s time line. Apple will do just fine without Macworld.”
And, presumably, without Steve Jobs.

Should go to the OSS fairs, they need hugs and kisses for what they do with Firefox, OpenOffice, and most of all, Wordpress and Linux!
