Prince charged with plagiarism

p2pnet news view Music:- “Prince has been accused of plagiarism by two Italians writers for the song ‘The Most Beautiful Girl In The World’. According to the Italian news Adnkronos, TMBGITW is one repeated melody, that is same of a less known song “Takin’ me to paradise”, composed 10 years before by Bruno Bergonzi and Michele Vicino and singed by Rainard J. An Italian court found Prince actually guilty of plagiarism.”

The above comes from prince.org, a fan site devoted to His Purple Awfulness – the other one, that is, not Barney – who was recently trounced by baby Holden Lentz who used to bounce along happily to ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ until Prince, and recording industry mega-label UMG, went crazy and tried, and failed, to sue Holden for copyright violation.

Now, an Italian court has ruled Prince’s 1994 hit, “borrowed heavily from ‘Takin’ Me to Paradise’ ” by Bruno Bergonzi and Michele Vicino, says Billboard.

His Awful Purpleness must, “stop distributing the song on Italian territory,” says the story, going on:

“He also faces having to pay the royalties he has so far accumulated to Bergonzi and Vicino and their publishers, but only if a final hearing confirms the Italian songwriting duo was plagiarized.”

The ruling, “is in fact an appeal against the original sentence, which, in 2003, rejected Bergonzi and Vicino’s claim,” says the story, adding:

“This latest ruling was actually made in December 2007 and registered on Feb. 11 last year, but Bergonzi and Vicino have only now spoken out.

“For a sentence to become definitive in Italy, a ‘third degree’ ruling is necessary and this could take several more years.”
