Tracking your child by satellite
p2pnet news view P2P:- Is this an invasion of privacy or a good idea?
“num8 is the world’s first GPS locator device that has been specifically designed with children in mind,” says the promo blurb on Lok8U. “It tells you exactly where your child is, anytime – at home or even abroad.
“All you need is a mobile phone or a computer to find their precise location.
“And unlike similar locator products, num8 has been cleverly concealed in a child’s digital watch that is securely fastened to your child and cannot be removed or deactivated without your knowledge.”
On show at the Consumer Electronics ShoFw in Las Vegas, it costs £149 ($CA267), it has a GPS chip similar to those used in a satnav unit, says UKFamily.
“It is accurate to within three metres and beams back the location to the Num8 website, giving the street address,” it says, adding:
“This new piece of technology locks onto the child’s wrist. If the child somehow manages to take it off, the system trips an alarm which sends an alert to the parent’s mobile phone.
“It’s also possible to send an alert by email in case the parent is sitting at the computer.”
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips have for years been used to keep an eye on children. But they can only track them locally.
