China Net population reaches 298 million

Some 39.5% of Chinese Netizens use cell phones to get around in CyberSpace, with students as the main strength, continues China Daily.
Almost 44% use their cell phones to read online news, download music, check email and perform a variety of other tasks, it says, qoing on:
“According to an online survey by Sina.com, China’s largest portal website, 65 percent of the nearly 158,000 respondents will try 3G service as long as it is available.”
Last week, China officially awarded licenses for 3G mobile networks to three telephone operators, “paving the way for investments of around 280 billion yuan in network upgrading and expansion over the next two years,” says the story, adding:
“China Mobile will spend 58.8 billion yuan in 2009 to expand its 3G network across the country while China Telecom and China Unicom plan to invest 80 billion yuan and 100 billion yuan respectively during the next two years.”
China had 298 million Internet users by the end of 2008, “more than any country in the world and a 41.9 percent growth compared to the previous year,” adds China Daily.
