p2pnet.net News:- Is Big Music getting ready to adjust its stance on trying to nail people who make back-up copies?
The Big Five record labels are looking for a way to let people make a limited number of copies of their music, “without allowing for uncontrolled duplication,” says a recent CNET story, also stating:
“Under the current system, each copied CD can itself lead to an unlimited number of additional copies, cutting substantially into sales, they say.”
If that’s indeed the case, why are they still all over 321 Studios? - we asked a while back.
And why aren’t they all over the Clarifier, a $99 box that among other things, allows people to back up VHS tapes and DVD’s to their DVD recorders and, “Removes ALL Copy Protection, Macrovision and CGMS/A; Compatible with PC Video Capture,” as the web site states.
In the meanwhile, in Australia, Big Music’s ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) is saying it’s “not opposed to a certain amount of copying by consumers, as long as it can be controlled,” states a ZDNet Australia report here.
The story quotes well-known CD collector and ARIA boss Stephen Peach as saying, “We certainly don’t agree consumers should have the statutory right to simply make copies, we think that right should rest in the copyright owner. However, the industry is exploring a variety of means where controlled copying by consumers can be implemented.”

Silly,
It’s not about the copying, it’s about CONTROL. They didn’t OWN/CONTROL the other guys… this one — my guess anyway — they must have some sort of interest in these other products.
Either that, or you just alerted them to their presence. (woops).
