Anti-gang cops at Lil Wayne concert
p2pnet news view Music:- Montreal police were expecting trouble when US rapper Lil Wayne did a show there.
The city’s anti-gang squad was, “out in full force,” says the CBC, going on:
“Police suspect Lil Wayne and his tough-talking lyrics could attract many members of Montreal’s various street gangs to the Bell Centre.”
“In the past, we’ve had problems in front of the theatre where [rap] concert[s] took place, and so you can be sure we’ll be present,” the story has sergeant Ian Lafrenière, stating, recalling an incident four years ago when a man was shot outside the centre after a concert by rapper 50 cent.
“The man survived because he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.”
What would a police presence mean in 2009?
Use your imagination, the CBC quotes Lafrenière as declaring, “but you can be sure it’s going to be pretty much everything”.
But the only shot came in Toronto, last night, when, during a three-song encore, Lil Wayne, “shot fire toward the crowd from behind a flame-thrower, slipped on a red Everlast boxing robe and sung along to a few bars of Whitney Houston’s cover of ‘I Will Always Love You,’ says the Canadian Press.
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s single ‘Lollipop’ was the year’s most-downloaded song with 9.1 million sales,” says TechRadar.
According to Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony BMG and their RIAA, this shouldn’t be happening because file sharers are “devastating” the corporate music industry, and the track is on all the P2P Networks.
Could its popularity be down to that rather than in spite of it, do you think?
