I just happened on this site. I don't download music, I don't own music, none. I listen to the radio. However, this is typical of the entire world. Greed is consuming mankind and thanks to 50 years of TV propaganda feeding your brains you all want something for nothing. It's like a speeding ticket. You know your speeding and then bitch about getting caught. We are doomed.

All people that think sharing mp3 is legal and moral are definetely not music artists. You would not have anything to share if it wasn't for us. But guess what, we starve as you enjoy our music for free. Thank you very much.

I'm an artist and I do not understand why everybody thinks music should be free and CD prices just should just keep going down. If one thinks all CDs are created equal, like bananas, then he/she should listen to bananas. Most don't care about the time, effort and money put into it by the artists and musicians. Why are people willing to pay different amounts of money for books, DVD, etc? Why are books different than CDs? CDs are produced with different budgets, and we artists are not all "Mariah Carey"s. If you are a big name and sell million of copies, you can sell for even $5 and still make a lot of money... more on my blog

Look, I hate the MAFIAA as much as the next guy and I think this is gret... but to be honest... piracy is still piracy and still illegal. I'd rather people just buy it legitimately, but the DRM in most stuff these days is annoying at best, and absolutely debilitating at worst.

Still. I'd rather not pirate.

truth be told, the FBI have been acting as corporate police for over 30 years.
Go ahead, dig out your beta or vhs tape, and watch the FBI warning on your screen.
Further, the FBI were hounding average teenagers in the 80s, accusing everyone with a Tandy of 'cyber crime'.
You may even get lucky and find an episode of Different Strokes, where 'Arnold' gets busted by the Feds!

As far as the article goes- 'bout time!

This moronic argument of each download is a sale lost has been an obvious lie from the start and is an offense to the intelligence.

Maybe this case will help to finally unravel the continuing extortion racket being committed by the MAFIAA. I really hope that some of the big nobs in these organizations and their related organizations like MediaSentry end up going to jail, for a long time.

In light of recent developments such as this, I can't see the ISP three strikes rule gaining much traction and in France, where it has, it will founder. As Jon has reported here in detail, this punishes people and removes their rights for merely for being accused, without any proof, due process or anything else. Worst, it perpetuates the lie of "making available" as a sound reason for punishing people, when it's been shown in court multiple times that this "theory" is garbage.

The calculation of "lost profit" is probably even more complicated than that, as there is also the issue that some of the people who download an album sometimes end up buying it (or a different one of the same artist) anyway after liking it. (It has happened with me a few times, self-admitted mass pirate. I'm sure I'm not the only one). The downloading of a DRM-free album also provides an advantage that other forms of promotion like crippled free samples or limited streaming hardly can, and that is the ability for the music to grow on you after repeated listens (which is typical of good music as opposed to shallow insta-hits).

Err.. hold on. Torrent files don't contain copyright material, itaque he shouldn't be in court in the first place. The laws are antiquated and are being applied anachronistically.

And while we are on the subject, why do the FBI involve themselves in copyright infringement? Haven't they go better things to do than harass teenagers?
