Bell Canada ‘fastest WiFi’ claim ‘inaccurate’

p2pnet news view | WiFi:- There’s only one reason Bell is still in Bidness.

It has friends in low places.

If its consumers [read customers, whom it treats like dirt] were of any account, it would’ve been long gone. But it’s still there, and claiming to have the fastest WiFi network in not only in Canada, but in North America.

It’s like the old lawyers joke: Q: How do you tell if they’re lying? A: Their lips are moving.

Because Bell’s PR has turned out to be BS.

“In response to a complaint filed by Rogers Wireless, Advertising Standards Canada, the advertising industry’s national self-regulatory body, recently looked into a Bell Mobility ad that claimed Bell had ‘the fastest … network across North America’,” says the Toronto Star, going on »»»

The panel ultimately decided that Bell’s claim was inaccurate after viewing evidence put forward by Rogers.

The panel then asked members of the public to give their assessment of the claim in question.

Bell refused to supply any evidence to the panel.

Janet Feasby, spokesperson for the ASC, said that “considering the evidence provided, the claim was found to be inaccurate.”

The ASC informed Bell of its findings in October, but Bell refused to recognize the decision, says the story.

(Thanks, Marc)

“The ASC informed Bell of its findings in October, but Bell refused to recognize the decision”

(Is this not the Bell we’ve grown to love?)

If they want to get on the bad side of Rogers’, I think that would be fine by me.
    More fuel for the fire!

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Rogers is the one to talk how this for false advertising?

the same bullshit about speed except advertised on DEMONOID directly below a link that read “upload a torrent”

  3. hook Says:

unless bell can provide close to 100 MBps [that's full speed of LAN, or computer to router to computer] they are not the fastest and never will be
with present day 300 MBps wifi cards these speeds can be achieved from house to house, the other aprox. 200 MBps is overhead and translation

    Bell = shills

  4. CHRoNoSS Says:

these people CONSISTANTLY lie cheat and swindle , when will people realize that they are absolutely no good.

    FOR anything.

  5. Devil's Advocate Says:

    @Hook:
The “standard” is measured in Mbps (Mega*bits* per second), not MBps (Megabytes ps).
However, the advertising from all providers is false, nevertheless.
They always promise an “uninterrupted and fast connection” with a bandwidth of 3MB – 16MB, of which you never see even a quarter of.

  6. Adam Says:

    Well lets see

CDMA has speeds averaging from 50 to 70 Kbps
EDGE/3G is roughly around 236.8 (for edge) up to a maxiumum of 5 megabits/second (Note: These are rough figures pulled from a quick google search)

So, bells 1x CDMA network compared to Rogers EDGE (Which 99% of their current phones support) and then their 3g (Smart Phones and some flip phones)…. MAJOR difference.

Lets not forget 4G will be coming out soon… 4G will be capable of providing between 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s speeds both indoors and outdoors, with premium quality and high security.

So who’s the faster network again?

  7. hook Says:

    @ DA
yes, i get carried away in hopes of getting even a tiny bit more by adding another capital letter, from speeds that are pathetic at present
