‘Public’ Bell throttling hearing censored

CRTC Public Hearings on Throttling

That’s the header on jfmezei_anon’s dslreports post.

He goes on »»»

www.crtc.gc.ca/PartVII/eng/2008/···5400.htm

This is the web page for the public hearings on the throttling public process.

Great! Public hearing. That means the public can hear.

So all we need to do is get in touch with the CRTC [Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission] and find out how we get hold of all the ins and outs and details.

Not, says jfmezei_anon in a second comment »»»

The standard [CRTC] response to all questions is:

Pursuant to section 39 of the Telecommunications Act, certain information in this response is being provided in confidence to the Commission. Release of this information on the public record would allow existing and potential competitors to formulate more effective business plans and marketing strategies, thereby prejudicing the Companies’ competitive position and causing specific direct harm to the Companies. An abridged version is provided for the public record.

Abridged? That means censored, surely ! ?

In other words, it’s more important that Bell competitors don’t get to compete than it is for the public to have access to details of how Bell intends to penetrate its customers even more painfully than it has already.

“If the CRTC does not support the various requests for infiormation release, then this is not a ‘public hearing’ since only the CRTC will have the information needed for intelligent debate,” says jfmezei_anon in a third post, adding »»»

This process was a sham to begin with, but the CRTC needs to uphold some minimum of public debate to make it appear legitimate.

But no worries. Bell Canada’s online users have everything under control.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

/facepalm once again embarrassment from what should be a regulatory institution in favor of the people not big business.
send them an email or 2. Hell send them 10,000. To every available CRTC email for this lack of respect for the public well being.

“This process was a sham to begin with, but the CRTC needs to uphold some minimum of public debate to make it appear legitimate.”
The CRTC is a sham to begin with, so what can you expect?

  2. Reader's Write Says:

The CRTC exists to protect the telecom companies, not the general public. You can send them millions of letters, it won’t change their minds.

  3. Judge Rico Dredd Says:

The CRTC is about as corrupt as you can get in a body thats supposed to protect the interests of the common people.

Don’t complain to them about this, complain to your local politicians, complain to the people at the top of the chain, complain to the prime minister and whoever else at the top will listen.

If they won’t listen, vote them out.

If even this doesn’t work, well there is always armed insurrection…

“If even this doesn’t work, well there is always armed insurrection…”

Are you saying its time for a gov coup?

  5. Reader's Write Says:

    ‘Bell competitors’

One of those words doesn’t belong ;)
