Taiwain taken off US ‘watch list’

p2pnet news view | MPAA News:- There will be great and loud rejoicing in the streets of Taiwan.

But not because Barack Obama has now officially replaced Scourge W. Bush.

It’ll be because Hollywood’s MPAA (sorry, the US Trade Representative) has taken the country off its special ‘watch list’.

“Taiwan has come a long way on this issue over the last eight years,” praised Sean Spicer, a spokesman for the MPAA (sorry, US Trade Representative’s office) says the Taipei Times.

“Taiwan was a haven for pirates,” said Spicer. “Today, it has strengthened its enforcement, strengthened its laws and demonstrated a commitment to becoming a haven for innovation and creativity.”

In other words, it’ll be looking after Hollywood interests far more earnestly than hitherto, using taxpayer funds to enforce copyrights.

The Intellectual Property Office under the Ministry of Economic Affairs yesterday welcomed the news.

The director-general of the office, Wang Mei-hua, said the development was an indication that Taiwan’s efforts to protect intellectual property rights had won the recognition of the US.

Wang said that the establishment of the intellectual property court on July 1 last year was the most important achievement in the nation’s efforts to promote IPR protection, adding that the court had received 700 cases as of the end of the year.

Well done, Taiwan. Well done. MPAA boss Dan ‘The Joker’ Glickman wil be proud.

This is a telltale sign of a political whore, needing to get validation and recognition from others.
