Canada Rulz the Razzies

That’s John Wilson. He’s the founder of the Razzies, the only movie industry organisation whose awards actually reflect reality.
For 28 years, the Razzies (short for raspberries) have, “honoured the worst drivel in Hollywood,” said Ben Kaplan in the National Post.
Actually, that’s not strictly speaking true because the bulk of Hollywood releases are drivel.
But one knows what he means.
Why, though, was he so upset?
Because preliminary ballots for his 2008 nominations for the year’s worst movies – and screen couple, director and all-time worst career – were leaked on MTV’s movie blog, says the story.
Oh.
“We have not announced our nominations,” the National Post has Wilson stating, “seeking to clarify that, while Paris Hilton, Jessica Alba and the cast of The Women are all in the running for worst actress, what was leaked to the public and reported on by New York magazine yesterday was merely the ballot received by the 650 critics on his mailing list”.
“Nobody asked me not to post it,” says Larry Carroll, senior writer for MTV News, who started the bad movie mayhem, revealing that Al Pacino and his hair are in the running for worst screen couple and Keanu Reeves is up for a worst career achievement award.
“I take this job very seriously. In order to find the good movies, you have to sit through a lot of turds.”
Oh.
So what was the worst of the worst?
Canadian comedian Mike Myers’ Love Guru pulled in worst picture and worst acting for him, Jessica Alba, Verne Troyer, and Ben Kingsley.
Also up were Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, The Happening, The Hottie & The Nottie, and In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.
And to no one’s surprise, Paris Hilton was Razzed as worst actress and worst screen couple, “shared with her co-stars, in The Hotttie & The Nottie, as well as worst supporting actress for Repo! The Genetic Opera,” says City News, adding »»»
Eddie Murphy had two nominations as worst actor and worst screen couple opposite himself in the sci-fi comedy Meet Dave.
Cameron Diaz was up for worst actress as well as worst screen couple alongside Ashton Kutcher in What Happens In Vegas. Meanwhile, Al Pacino was up for worst actor for his films 88 Minutes and Righteous Kill.
The stars of The Women, among them Annette Bening, Eva Mendes and Debra Messing, shared a worst actress nomination. Kate Hudson was also called out for her roles in Fool’s Gold and My Best Friend’s Girl.
Filmmaker Uwe Boll, nominated for worst director this year for In The Name Of The King, was also to receive a special career achievement prize as Germany’s answer to the legendary inept filmmaker Ed Wood.
