Google cookies are yummy, says White House

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- President Barack Obama’s new administration has granted a rare privilege to Do No Evil Google.

It’s, “quietly exempted YouTube from strict rules relating to the use of cookies on federal agency Web sites,” says CNet News, going on »»»

The new White House Web site privacy policy promises that the site will not use long-term tracking cookies, complying with a decade-old rule prohibiting such user tracking by federal agencies.

However, the privacy policy then reveals that Obama’s legal team has exempted YouTube from this rule (YouTube videos are embedded at various places around the White House Web site).

While the White House might not be tracking visitors, the Google-owned video sharing site is free to use persistent cookies to track the browsing behavior of millions of visitors to Obama’s home in cyberspace.

No other company has been, “singled out and rewarded with such a waiver,” says the story.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

    hmmm cookies.
actually i hate them and believe they should be deleted completely upon website leave.
google can keep their cookies and eat them too.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

unless i make then they are not worth it
never have them turned in browser unless website absolutely needs them for logins and such
if pushy or malicious page is found i rewrite cookies with junk and reload page, this has all kinds of cool fx ;)
if site still pushy good idea to rewrite cookie with nuke code :D
