Wired reports of Steve Jobs’ death false
p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- A Wired report that Steve Jobs had succumbed to cardiac arrest was, “the work of pranksters who hacked into the website of Wired magazine and published the hoax themselves before spreading the link on social networks,” says news.com.au.
“The fake story, which was taken down in less than two hours, was complete with a current timestamp, a list of related stories and appeared under the name of a writer known for publishing stories on Mr Jobs’ health.”
Not funny.
“The hoaxer was able to create a cursorily valid-looking page using our public upload image viewer, whose URL was not a secret and which generates a page containing an image under a genuine Wired logo banner,” says Wired’s John C Abell under whose by-line the story appeared.
It’s been patched, says the post, adding:
“In this instance the hoaxer went to the considerable trouble of creating an image of a three-paragraph story, with such affirming attributes as my aforementioned byline, current time stamp, some excellent (genuine) related stories and the social bookmarking icons at the bottom – including an (unfortunately hoax) 201 Diggs.”
(Thanks, Andrew)
