Who was it that said “I don’t agree with what you say, but I’ll defend to my death your right to say it!”? I might not be so noble, but while I find this show gross enough that I probably won’t ever turn to TLC just in case it’s on, I think its own ratings will get it off the air, without need of censoring. Especially with activists working to show it for what it is!

I find those activities ( except Hunting ) reprehensible, yet it is not
my right to tell others they can’t enjoy them. It IS my right to not
view or participate in them, and not purchase products or support

Banning never makes sense, and usually never works, like trying to Ban P2P, f’rinstance
No matter how much you try, you can’t legislate a conscience, or enforce ‘intelligent’ choice.

I find homosexuality reprehensible, and yet it is not my place to tell consenting adults what they

I have no desire to tell them they can’t Marry if they choose.

and other stupid things people do for fun or money. not every state requires car insurance or a motorcycle helmet, but every state has seatbelt laws, too. these things make sense, free will or not. and banning stupid or harmful (physically or emotionally) things also makes sense.

my tongue is sort of in my cheek on the above, but to be clear, i’m not for banning books, movies or ideas or opinions. i just think there’s a limit and like you said, good parenting is the key. it’s mostly the exploitation of the kids by their parents i dislike, but i do really think beauty pageants should be stopped, and the way to start is to educate parents to not get their kids into it.

and again, i don’t think it’s fair to label this as kiddie porn. pedos will get what they want in just about any arena or medium and i wouldn’t call romper room, tikkabilla, or other children’s dramas or comedies where the kids wear make-up and pretty clothes kiddie porn.

I was not amused by a recent article about UK police going around arresting people who posed
in their MySpace pics with various knives. Just being in a picture with one was enough to

I find myself in the position of being a big fan of UFC MMA, and being pretty well educated, so I
think the both of us used a bit too broad a brush .

I just can’t make myself believe that banning anything is an answer.

In just about every religion ( having researched many ) they all have many common threads and one
is .. Free Will.
The God/gods just never seem to interfer with free will. Goes all the way to Wiccan as well, even

Free will is a cornerstone.
Banning, Government control, abandonment of personal responsibilty … all lead to totalitarianism.
I firmly believe that,

If you don’t like, or want to see this show, don’t watch it.
If you object THAT strongly, write the network, tell them you won’t watch, and you won’t
support their advertisers.
That’s the proper way to execute your free will as a comsumer. That’s the RIGHT way
to express YOUR choice.

Every one deserves to choose for themselves ( and for their OWN children ) what they wish to view, read,
worship etc.

Government level Banning is just the start of the end, and sadly, we are halfway past that already.

but i also think boxing and some other “sports” should also be banned, but that’s not gonna happen either because unfortunately they all attract the type of dumbed-down people who’ll either take part in them or pay to see them and buy the products advertised or endorsed by them.

as far as the UK being a nanny state…i don’t live in the UK (i’m american) or anywhere near it. but i do watch a lot of UK tv documentaries and sometimes news programs. i wouldn’t call it a nanny state anymore. when i lived there many years ago it was, but not now. i think it’s much more a big brother state – more than the US. the UK politicians are proud of – and boast about – having the most CCTV cameras in the world. that means that on average, a person in the UK is filmed or photographed a minimum of 30x/day.

and their police forces have taken their cues from hollywood and the US in general on how to strong-arm innocent people, as well as wearing masks, but no badge number or name plate, all “for their protection”. hah! the people have a right to know who the police are so they can be identified by their victims.

i don’t plan on ever living in the UK again.
