Man robs convenience store with Klingon sword The Register

Colorado Springs police are on the lookout for a man who attempted to rob two 7-Eleven convenience stores early Wednesday with a Klingon bat’leth sword. The first robbery was reported at about 2:00 AM after a man described as wearing a black mask, black jacket, and blue jeans entered the store brandishing the traditional Klingon crescent-shaped blade. After demanding money, the crook left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot, police said. About a half hour later, police received another call from a 7-Eleven about 3 miles away, reporting an attempted robbery by a man matching the same description. This time, the clerk refused to pay, and the robber took flight – apparently with no regard for Klingon honor. Both clerks were able to describe the weapon as a Star Trek Klingon-type sword according to the local media.

Canada braces for `Wi-Fi on steroids`  Ottawa Citizen

An international initiative spearheaded by the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S. could soon see this country blanketed by cheap, high-speed Internet with the potential to change the way Canadians share information, make cellphone calls and watch TV. Unlike other wireless technologies, white spaces are not affected by concrete, trees, or shrubs, and do not require a clear line of sight in order to work. The emergence of the new technology adds a twist to the upcoming hearings on new media, which are being held by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The federal regulator is trying to decide whether it should start regulating content on the Internet in the same way it regulates TV programming. Strict rules regarding Canadian content apply to traditional broadcasters. Until now, the CRTC has taken a hands-off approach to Internet broadcasts. The CRTC hearing begins Feb. 17. Technologies such as white spaces are forcing the CRTC to re-visit its position on Internet content, as more consumers watch TV and movies on the web – a trend that white spaces will accelerate. The CRTC refused to comment on the technology directly, but a spokesman said the agency is watching the white-space rollout and communicating regularly with the FCC.

TorrentSpy renews legal campaign against MPAA CNet

“We’re arguing the court was wrong in procedures and wrong in judgment,” Rothken told CNET News on Wednesday. “In a one-hour hearing regarding discovery issues, the court terminated the case and didn’t give TorrentSpy a trial. We believe the court was wrong and abused its discretion. We believe the court ordered TorrentSpy to do things that (were) in violation of the site’s privacy policy, and we believe that the tension between the court’s discovery orders and user privacy rights is an important issue on appeal.”

Does anyone have more info about this story?

“Canada braces for ‘Wi-Fi on steroids’ Ottawa Citizen”

    Maybe something CRTC related?

  2. CHRoNoSS Says:

and why is the above post slagging his crap everywhere WHY are you whining?
YOU do realize that some of those posts i made bring people here, they bring traffic here, and the site is about p2p if we wish to win a war on the p2p front it is that we must become proactive and get people ALSO to goto there blogs and there sites and start posting and start saying their views there.

\If that is spam then the use of this site as an ability to reply is nulled, what good is it if i cant report back and say CBC news site was inundated with p2p users who made there views known and the spam happy govt spammers were unable to prevent the discussions.

That kinda actual doing does more then simple reporting and there is nothing wrong with posting links , since when is there a problem with that if the above poster wishes censorship then return from the crap you came from and have some toilet paper handy cause your a big terd.

AND how is slashdot and dsl reports these days anyhow mister poster above ya need some where else to go these days?

  3. Dreddsnik Says:

Thats not a post Chronoss, Jon added a ‘byline’ which briefly outlines the kind
of posts he does not want.

Don’t feel bad, I had to look twice too before I realized what it was.

  4. Jon Says:

    @ Chronos

This isn’t aimed at you or anyone else, in particular. It’ll get fixed so it’s more obvious it’s guidelines for posting. It doesn’t look too good at the moment but the kind of craziness that’s going on calls for it.

    Cheers!

  5. didier Says:

We are living in an unprecedented social experiment.

Never so much technology has been available to everyone.
From a very young age, children start with a computer connected to the Internet then graduate very quickly in the name of parent security with mobile phones, they are the new generation of connected kids.
For these kids social interactivity is happening through emails, SMS and of course what it is called “Social” sites with the likes of Facebook and others.

  6. Comeoncomcast Says:

I hope a slow unrepenting death to that idiotic clean feed

Im starting to get really pissed
