No fears for CTV Do Not Call List story

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- On Tuesday p2pnet ran a request from CTV researcher Karla for victims of Canada’s farcical Do Not Call List to contact her for a report the TV station is putting together.

Bell Canada operates (exploits?) the list under the auspices of the(CRTC and from all appearances, the only people getting any joy out of it are the very people it’s supposed to be guarding against – telephone spammers, aka marketers.

Incredibly, they can buy the updated list from the CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission) for a song.

“The list has turned into an embarrassing, mind-boggling national disgrace,”we posted. “Ottawa law professor Michael Geist, with his own iOptOut site, calls it the Do Not Hesitate to Call list.”

But CTV? – ask p2pnet readers.

Go look at the bottom of the CTV website, suggested CHRoNoSS; “do you want these jokers having your private info?”

What’s the problem?

Bell owns CTV, said oxymoron69. “I doubt they’re really going to report this story without bias.”

“You beat me to that one, Oxy!” – posted Devil’s Advocate, going on »»»

I then had another thought – It’s quite possible CTV decided to do this without thinking of that angle – like the usual media reflex action to a possible big story. And, what if CTV got so much response to the subject that it got out of their control?

They’d unintentionally end up pointing the finger at their owners on the air! :)

Nah, it’ll never happen! :(

But never say never.

Karla, the CTV researcher who asked us for help in the first place, says »»»

Bell owns a very small part of CTV. 15% to be exact. We’re mostly owned by the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan.

AND, even when Bell owned a bigger share of CTV, we would still do stories about Bell when customers would tell us about bad customer service.

I can understand that people are suspicious, but I can assure you, as a human being who cares about my own research, that I push myself to be as impartial as possible.

I hope this puts concerns to rest.

As we said in the first story, below are links to p2pnet posts on the subject, and if you have a thought or ten you’d like to share, and your concerns are at rest, contact Karla at fraulein.karla @ gmail dot com

And stay tuned. ;)

One Response to “No fears for CTV Do Not Call List story”

  1. Devil's Advocate Says:

I still say Karla is just spinning it the way the MSM always does.
All CTV wants is to attract some viewers with such “bait pieces” that stem from current issues like the DNCL betrayal.

Yeah, CTV, as well as Global and other stations have, from time to time, done “stories on Bell”.
What none of them ever do is follow up any of these stories when it comes time to point a finger at Bell.

And, I find it a little hard to believe Bell’s share of CTV would be as low as 15%.

Call me a terminal conspiracy theorist, but if the intended story ever started to dig the way it should, and Bell’s name gets said in the wrong light (the logical result), you can bet the story won’t get finished.
