Idea to The Pirate Bay: feature a special "public domain" section, and put there the material that SHOULD become public domain. For the term, choose 14 years AFTER CREATION, as this is THE ORIGINAL copyright term.

Talk about milking it. Even the musicians are cash-cows instead of trying to write new material. I see now why the industry (man high ranking people are former musicians/producers are they not) is the way it is. Kinda like politics by George Carlin, "garbage in... garbage out."

You know, why don't we all chip in and get copyright and patents on common things like playing music, singing, writing music, painting, breathing, eating etc... I mean if they can claim rights to specific songs why not claim rights to the act itself? That way we can totally kill the companies and their lobbyists from existence. Then, after the dust settles we can change the laws again (because we'll copyright that too) and make them 20yrs maximum before becoming public domain.

Talk about stimulation of creation eh? You can redo someone's song after 20yrs or you can use a few notes that are similar (even if the chord progression is similar) and not be sued! And those who are 'hits' will have to keep writing and if they can't, well they can remake someone else's hits from 20+ years before.
