Please don’t leave Facebook! – Zuckerberg begs
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Part of the Facebook Way to become Filthy Rich is to weasel around users so it can peddle their personal and private information to advertisers so they, in turn, can use ‘behavioural targeting’ to make ads they hope and pray will convince you to buy their stuff, or the stuff they’ve been paid to promote, mostly of it useless to begin with.
Young Mark Zuckerberg, the guy who runs Facebook, and his team, “know who you are, how old you are, where you went to school, whether you’re male or female, they’ve read the messages you sent to your friends, and so on,” said p2pnet recently, going on:
“So they reckoned they could do anything they wanted with those data, accordingly adjusting the Facebook terms of service to reflect their erroneous, as it turned out, belief.”
But it was not be. Facebook users are a whole lot smarter than Mr Z & Co, forcing them to beat a hasty retreat.
Now, “Facebook is begging users not to delete their accounts,” says The Advertiser, going on, “Users who attempt to delete their accounts today are being shown an apology for the policy ‘mistake’ and an assurance that they own content posted to the site.
“Are you deleting because you are concerned about Facebook’s Terms of Service?” reads the message, signed by The Facebook Team. “This was a mistake that we have now corrected. You own the information you put on Facebook and you control what happens to it.
“We are sorry for the confusion.”
Returning to the previous terms, “was the right thing for now,” said Zuckerberg on the FB blog.
And “for now” is the operative phrase because although he’s been forced to back down this time around, it’s his way, or no way.
He states:
As I said yesterday, we think that a lot of the language in our terms is overly formal and protective so we don’t plan to leave it there for long.
The next version, he promises, “will be a substantial revision from where we are now”.
But, “If you’d like to get involved in crafting our new terms, you can start posting your questions, comments and requests in the group we’ve created – Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.”
Wouldn’t you love to be able to see the submissions?
Stay tuned.
(Cheers, Marc)

Give it time to die down. You’ll be hearing of another bs move to try and make money of the cash cows on the site. This is the second or third time around on making moves like this that inconvenience the site goer at best. Leopards don’t change their spots; it’ll be back around again in some form as soon as he figures it’s safe to try it again.
Given the nature of the owner, best thing to do with Facebook is never join. Then you don’t have to worry about how you going to get your data removed from the site.

These social sites just make it easier for governments / other organizations to gather information on you, and most of the users are unknowingly participating by posting their day-to-day activies, likes dislikes.. god.. imagine the gestapo had access to a resource like that.
