Spoiled by Bono
p2pnet news view Music:- I have a problem. I’m listening to U2’s upcoming No Line On The Horizon as I write this.
“Relax Bono. I’ve already seen a multitude of links to this album,” says a Reader’s Write. “I certainly won’t be downloading it. I also won’t be buying it. You’re almost as tedious as your music. Almost, but not quite.”
The comment comes in p2pnet’s story on the fact the album was leaked online in full CD quality, complete with cover and notes, before its release.
It’s slated for release March 3, “but it was available to download for a brief period this week thanks not to file sharers, but getmusic.com.au, “run by Universal Music Australia,” said the Sydney Morning Herald.
Bono is tedious. He’s a jumped up, egotistical bigmouth who epitomises everything that’s bad about corporate rock stars.
But for the hell of it, I downloaded No Line On The Horizon and I hate to say it but ( and I can’t believe I’m saying this) I like it!
Some of it, anyway, and more than just two tracks.
Damn!
I like old-style rock, and in many respects, this is old-style rock.
But I have still have a problem.
Bono.
There’s no way I’d spend my money on anything that’s going to put cash into that clown’s pocket.
And that’s a pity because although No Line On The Horizon isn’t all good, it ain’t half-bad either.

Watch the youtube video BandAid20 did, remaking Let Them Know It’s Christmas Time. Bono is in the booth, trying to sound even remotely as he did in 1985, but look at how he moves when he sings. Watch his actions, it’s like he is suffering from a God-like complex or something. And again, he does not sound anything like he used to, that of course is due to improper singing technique. Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is a prime example of someone who can still belt it out as he did two decades earlier.
Egos are “necessary” when you’re the “frontman” of a band, I suppose (eg: Sebastian Bach formerly of Skid Row), but there comes a point where you have to be a little more humble and a little more connected with the people buying/listening to your music. McGuinness can lash out all he wants, it just shows how little he understands what is happening.
Like many, I’ve downloaded for free and then LATER PURCHASED! But I’ve also SAVED myself from purchasing items I would not have liked, such as U2’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind or How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
However, while I don’t agree with what Bono or his manager thinks of filesharing, I do have vinyl, cassette, and CD versions (official!!!) of The Joshua Tree. To me that was an amazing album and worth having in all available formats (I don’t think 8-track formats exist for that LP).

Calling Bono egotistical is a tired cliche. In fact I charge that calling Bono egotistical is egotistical. And if u2 are “corporate rockers” why do they continue to produce music innovative enough to trump a lot of bands half their age. I can understand being tired of U2 through overexposure, but if you’d never heard them before you’d be raving about how innovative and mind blowing No Line is. Also, you should check one.org to see all the horrible egotism of Bono’s empty promises of African Debt, Aids, TB, Malaria and Tuberculosis relief.

@Mike:
I have never trashed Bono’s efforts to put his money into excellent charitable causes. However, his personality is what bothers me, as I already said. He has a God complex because his band does so well, no matter what they release, people rave that it is the best thing ever. His God complex also comes from his political aspirations and massive publicity from being a ‘hero.’
Again, the man could be a lot more humble. Making charitable donations does not equate to the right to have an ego and flip out when people leak your music to the masses, especially when their concert tickets are so expensive. His fame and charity has gone to his head!
And as I said, watch the video for BandAid 20, his voice ain’t what it used to be and he should lose the ego, and be humble. It would improve his chances at sympathy when his album is leaked.

I’m tired of people slating Bono and U2. You must all have some pretty sad live’s that you feel the need to knock a person, who more than likely does’nt give a crap what you think anyway. I guess when your successfull, there will alway’s be sad looser’s who will want to bring you down to there level.

” who more than likely does’nt give a crap what you think anyway. ”
I would say that’s a large part of why his fan base is going away.
The more he continues to not give a crap about his fans, the less successful he will become.
You’ll still be there for him though, won’t you ?

” However, while I don’t agree with what Bono or his manager thinks of filesharing, ”
Apparently the label doesn’t agree with Bono or his manager either.
” It’s slated for release March 3, “but it was available to download for a brief period this week thanks not to file sharers, but getmusic.com.au, “run by Universal Music Australia,”
I really wish these fools would stop pretending they don’t know how this stuff gets to the sharers.
We know AND they know it’s the best free publicity on the planet.
We know AND they know this stuff comes FROM INSIDERS deliberately for the purpose of free advertisement,
plus the added bonus of providing ammo for their faux outrage against P2P thieves.
It’s tiresome, obvious and no-one is buying it anymore, both figuratively and literally.
BTW, did that Hollywood insider ‘caught’ releasing screeners ACTUALLY SERVE ANY TIME ?
Keep in mind, i’m not asking if he got convicted, i’m asking if he got any real punishment.
A conviction makes great news, but a lack of any punishment underscores the falseness of
the labels ( and hollywoods ) stance on P2P.
