Google Mail crashes

p2pnet news view P2P:- If you depend on one source for, well, everything, and that one source has a problem you are, well, totally phkd.

A lot of people thought the end had come when advertising company Google, which wants to be everything – literally everything – it can be, vanished for quarter of an hour.

Data starvation! There are, of course, plenty of other sources of information, but …

This time, Gmail has crashed.

“It’s truly scary how so many people depend absolutely on Google as their be-all and end-all in so many areas – as the place to store the documents, for their email accounts, their health records, for walking the dog,” we said back in August, 2008, going on:

“Well, not quite that, maybe. But you get the picture.

“Yesterday, ‘Many of you had trouble accessing Gmail for a couple of hours this afternoon, and we’re really sorry,’ says the official Google blog under the ridiculous heading, We feel your pain, and we’re sorry.”

This time, there’s not a dicky bird from Google. Nothing. Nada. At least, not on its official blog.

But on, “2/24/2009 – “We’re aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a number of users,” said Gmail Help. “This problem occurred at approximately 1.30AM Pacific Time. We’re working hard to resolve this problem and will post updates as we have them. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.”

Good about Google Offline, though, eh?

Recently introduced, it’s described as an experimental feature which’ll mean, “even if you’re offline, you can open your web browser, go to gmail.com, and get to your mail just like you’re used to”.

Riiiiight

Is it still down? At 4:39 am Pacific we couldn’t find any reports of it being back again and since we don’t use it …..

Stay tuned
