Eminem sues Universal over downloads
p2pnet news view Music:- Marshall Bruce Mathers III is today slated to sue Big 4 gang member Vivendi Universal.
You’ll know Mathers better as Eminem.
What’s he after?
Royalties from downloading.
According to TheWrap, a two-year-old lawsuit lodged by Eminem’s F.B.T. Productions is is finally going to court with Universal Music Group (UMG) in the hot seat.
The witless list includes Jimmy Iovine, a founder of UMG and its distribution label, Interscope Records, and its subsidiary, Aftermath Entertainment, the lead defendant, Apple boss Steve Jobs, who’s scheduled to testify by video, says the story.
“Eminem himself is not expected to appear,” it says.
He’s suing Universal, “over how much he is entitled to when UMG sells his music to third-party distributors – including Apple’s iTunes and phone companies like Sprint and Nextel, which offer the music for ringtones,” says The Wrap, adding:
“At stake is potentially hundreds of millions of dollars for recording artists whose songs have gained unprecedented levels of distribution through digital downloads.
“While digital royalties have become a growing source of conflict between artists and record companies in recent years as downloads have gained in popularity, the trial in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California represents the first legal test of the competing issues.”

For clarity, he’s suing for legal downloads from which he’s received nothing?
Good for you Eminem! I feel this is good because he’s an artist fighting for his rights, and it further demonstrates that the artists are receiving next to nothing from legal digital downloads.
If it is true that artists have yet to receive a penny from digital music sales, then clearly whether we download and pay for it, or simply file share the music, the artist receives NOTHING!
And if that’s true, then this should prove the labels are full of shit and Congress/Media have believed it.

“…then this should prove the labels are full of shit and Congress/Media have believed it…”
The labels ARE full of shit.
You now have a second opinion.
(They don’t need proof of what they say, so neither do we!)
: )
As far as Congress and the (Mainstream) Media goes…
Who cares what they believe, they’re full of shit, too!
