Try Gary McKinnon in UK: Lord Carlisle
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- The US wants its pound of flesh.
Gary McKinnon’s flesh.
KcKinnon is the hapless British hacker who found his way into American military systems during his search for hidden data on UFOs.
Under the George W. Bush regime, he could’ve been classed as an ‘enemy combatant’ and interned at Guantánamo Bay.
KcKinnon, “allegedly broke into 97 US military computers from his bedroom in Wood Green, North London” and thus faced at least 10 years in prison, “although some estimates put it much higher,” said the Times Online.
But Lord Carlile (right), wants the UK home secretary to have McKinnon prosecuted in Britain, “rather than face extradition and a jail term in the US,” says The Guardian, going on:
“In a letter to Jacqui Smith, Lord Carlile, QC, writing in a personal capacity, states that ‘there is no doubt that Mr McKinnon could be prosecuted in this country given that the acts of hacking occurred within our jurisdiction’.”
He suggests McKinnon’s condition, “makes a very strong case for any prosecution to take place in the UK,” noting:
“Of especial importance is the opinion of Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, who describes the unusual and florid symptoms which place Mr McKinnon clearly within the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder, with potential injury to his health of a high order were he to be transferred to the US legal system.”
He also suggests the argument that such a transfer to the US jail system could infringe European human rights laws, is “plain and strong,” says the story, quoting him as stating:
“I would hope that the US authorities would be prepared to accept that the English legal system is capable of dealing with the case in full.”

Tell the USA government to do one, and get better security for their network.
