RIAA staff fired: confirmed
p2pnet news view | RIAA News:- Thirty or so RIAA staffers have been, or are to be, fired.
“Earlier this week, sources pointed to ’significant’ layoffs in the range of 30, and chops across various regional, anti-piracy units,” says Digital Music News,” going on »»»
The Washington, DC-based RIAA did not initially respond to inquiries, though representative Cara Duckworth eventually confirmed details by email early Thursday morning.
‘Can’t confirm number but I can confirm there were layoffs,” Duckworth relayed. “As you can imagine, the music community is not immune from the impact of these tough economic times’.”
Adds the story:
“Some staffers may have been released from headquarters, though that information has not yet been confirmed.”
Meanwhile, rumours that RIAA millionaires Cary Sherman and Mitch Bainwol have offered to take wage cuts should be entirely discounted.
Definitely stay tuned.

^^^^ Hello, boatload of crazy.

ToF, you realize that removing P2P won’t speed up your internet, right? A lot of what’s slowing down your connection isn’t at the ISP level, but things such as the YouTube servers being overloaded, or lots of people viewing wikipedia, etc.
Removing P2P will simply shift the traffic to other methods of distribution such as Usenet, while simultaneously shutting down Skype, Lotus Notes, Octocast, and many other perfectly legal uses of P2P (even as defined by the RIAA!).

Haha, continue to make the RIAA suffer!

@ Sukasa:
Just so you know, ToF is a troll. He was blocked for a while, I let him back, he started again, and now he’s banned permanently.
True to form, he’ll post under fake names, so think twice before you bother to respond to contentious-appearing posts.
(Same to everyone else
)
Cheers! And thanks …

This news is good news.
In most cases I would not bother with a joyful sounding text for job losses. This one I’ve been working for by denying the major labels income. I am boycotting them for just this results or for a drastic change in the way they do business. Either outcome is satisfactory to me.
The RIAA along with the major labels have earned this ire all on their own. I have no sympathy for them at all. Better they be dead and gone as a lobby group, no longer to divert valuable time from lawmakers nor to add to the worries of college students who should be concentrating on studies instead of how to end the outright attempt at the theft of their families savings.

@Jon: didn’t realize that, thanks for the clarification.
Also I agree with Reader’s Write, this is one of the few cases where I find a job loss situation to be a good thing.

@ Sukasa:
At least, they’ll now be forced to find honest and gainful employment. Or will they?
The other Mafia always has openings.
Cheers!

30? Wow. I’ve seen layoffs in tiny companies with a higher number than that. Clearly, the economy and P2P isn’t hurting them THAT badly.

The must have just laid off the guys who change the water bottles.
The million dollar lawyers are still kicking around. That’s their bread & butter.

“The must have just laid off the guys who change the water bottles.
The million dollar lawyers are still kicking around. Thatâs their bread & butter.”
Oh how true.
Think how many jobs they could have saved, if they canned the litigious Lawyers and their henchmen?
While we’re at it, think how much more money would have gone in the pockets of the “performers” if they had ditched the Lawyers and their henchmen, and decided to actually pay the performers what they have due…
Just my two cents

Somebody locate those fired RIAA staff wherever possible. Perhaps we could get them to spill beans for posterity.
February 26th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
I suppose that’s one silver lining to the economic clusterfuck.

Hypebot.com has an unconfirmed report that the cuts at the RIAA go much deeper and amount to the dissolution of the organization. Something new is expected to emerge, blended with the international recorded music bodies.
