Movies overtake music downloads
p2pnet.net News:- Movies and other non-audio files are now the biggest download magnets, says an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development study.
“Across the OECD’s 30 industrialized member countries, music accounted for 48.6 percent of files shared online, compared with 62.5 percent in 2002,” says an Associated Press report here.
“Video accounted for 27 percent, up from 25.2 percent, the study will say.”
“The findings will do little to reassure movie studios, which are worried that they will be the next victims of the ever speedier Internet connections and compression technologies on offer to consumers,” says AP.
In another interesting new report, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) claims one in four surfers has illegally downloaded a movie from p2p file sharing networks.
North American box office receipts show the movie industry took in a record $1.03 billion during June, a 14% increase over June 2003’s previous monthly record, a mere $906.6 million.
