TweetBook? (shudder)
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if that’s the case, the people behind Twitter must be feeling pleased with all the attention their concept is getting from the people behind advertising network site Facebook.
Facebook apparently tried to buy Twitter but, thank God, failed. Because never the twain shall meet, a lot of people are earnestly hoping.
But so far, so good.
“Facebook’s inaccurate and illiquid stock assessment … was not appealing enough to Twitter,” says TopNews, quoting BusinessWeek.
Twitter was launched three years ago and according to various reports, has more than six million users. And its owners are seemingly still trying to figure out how to cash in on it.
“It`s perfectly fine to advertise on twitter but it’s hard to see how anyone could monetize from an irrelevant un-targeted audience (that’s when ‘advertising’ it becomes ’spam’),” said p2pnet reader JK.
His thoughts came in a comment post to our story that a lot of Twitterers are spammers (and it’s still the same), going on, “and you need to mix it up a bit … Doing noting but ads that`s not what the service was for! it`s always the bloody same when a new thing comes out someones gotta spoil it for eveyone else, I’m a prospector/opportunist but i still like to keep things within reason ”
Today is the day Facebook is expected to announce a, “redesigned version of its Pages product for businesses,” says Inside Facebook, going on »»»
For those that haven’t seen the details on all the likely* changes (*based on materials Facebook has been circulating with advertisers) and things Page owners need to do to prepare for the changes, here’s a quick summary:
1. Pages “2.0? now look a lot like Facebook profile pages: the Wall is front and center, and almost everything else (including custom HTML and application boxes) is moving to secondary tabs.
2. Pages will now have a powerful tool previously only available to Facebook profiles: Status Updates. Status Updates have the potential to become a VERY powerful tool for marketers large and small.
3. Activity from Pages you’re a fan of will now prominently appear in your home page News Feed. This means you’ll see updates from Pages you’re a fan of mixed in with updates from people you’re friends with.Sound familiar? That’s because, on the whole, Facebook Pages are becoming a lot more like Twitter in terms of the ways marketers can use them to reach and engage people inside Facebook.
Stay tuned, and keep your fingers crossed that whichever way Twitter’s chief tweeters decide to go, they won’t turn it into a TweetBook.
