Greyhound Bus killer not ‘criminally responsible’
p2pnet news view | Crime:- “In one of Canada’s weirdest, and most grisly, murders, a man on a Greyhound bus on its way to Winnipeg calmly started stabbing 22-year-old Tim McLean, who was sleeping next to him, and then cut his head off.
“Yesterday, the killer, Vince Weiguang Li (right), ’stood in a Manitoba courtroom yesterday pleading for it all to end,’ says the Globe and Mail.
” ‘Please kill me,’ he said quietly, in a court packed with journalists and members of the victim’s family’.”
That was the intro to the p2pnet story on the Greyhound Bus murder, as it came to be known, and now Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench judge John Scurfield has ruled Vincent Li wasn’t criminally responsible.
But in a bizarre twist, although Li isn’t criminally responsible, he’ll still have a criminal record, says the Winnipeg Sun, going on:
“The ruling means Li will be held in custody at a mental institution, not jail.
“Li will remain in secure custody at the psychiatric unit of Health Sciences Centre until a hearing can be scheduled before the mental health review board.”

McLean, a carnival worker, was returning home to Winnipeg on the bus from Edmonton. Listening to his iPod while sitting in the back row of Greyhound bus 1170, he gave Li a friendly greeting as the stranger sat down beside him.
Then, around 8:30 p.m. CT, when the bus was near Portage La Prairie, Man., Li pulled a buck knife from his side and began stabbing the young man — for no apparent reason, witnesses said. Passengers fled the bus and RCMP were called as Li was barricaded inside the vehicle.
During the stabbing Li was heard to say, “get emergency.”
Psychiatrists testified Li, “fit the criteria as someone who was not criminally responsible for their actions due to mental illness,” the story adds.

He should be locked in a room with Paul Bernardo and each of them given a knife.

Are you suggesting we turn our psychopathic criminals into gladiators for our enjoyment? I think I’ve seen that movie.
I think the government is using this to create a greater stigma towards mentally ill people.
Not that he shouldn’t be punished or anything.

It’s because of the failing and long-standing Mental Health Act we have so many such as Li “out there” in the first place.
The mentally ill need to be stripped of their right to make their own decisions sooner in the process, kept for realistic periods of time, and given real support and monitoring when they’re out (not just released to clear beds). As it stands now, tax dollars are completely wasted on nothing more than a revolving door of futility.

He’ll probably “Find Jesus Christ and accept “Him” as His Lord and Saviour”. Then his shyster lawyers will try to get him released early. After that, he’ll either kill again, or stand on a street corner with a sign that says “Homeless, Hungry. Please help. John 3:16.”
Sorry, I am such a pessimist.

Now I know I am going to upset you **politically correct oh we should FEEL so sorry for mr li how the system FAILED him and as a result this is what occured it’s NOT truly his fault types** but…
As I’m concerned this man was noncompliant in treatment in Ontario by walking away from treatment on his own and moved west he should have been placed in a pych-ward period.
Now every year for the rest of his waste of humanity’s life This poor family will have to relive their sons murder… relive that their sons head was hacked off and carried about like some sick trophy… relive the fact that this subhuman removed and ate their sions eyes and part of his heart…. relive that their sons nose was hacked from his face, the rest of his heart was removed and their sons tongue was cut out then all placed in a baggie he had in his pocket.
Every year this family will have to endure seeing this waste of life in order to help keep the rest of us safe from him.
How is that justice for the family??
For the defense’s Dr. to claim on record that Li is as much a victim as Tim is a joke and this Dr. seriously needs medical care himself.
It is time like these i SO wish Canada had capital punishment… Now WE have to pay our hard earned tax money to keep this thing alive well fed and comfortable who if deemed *mentally sound* at some time will be free and clear to continue his life and the murder he committed is literally erased.
At the very least this animal should be branded right across his forehead for the world to see and know “I’m a Killer” Then we really would be safe from him

We have the same problem in the United States.
Almost all of the fifty states have a death penalty but because of endless appeals and other evasive measures smart ass defense lawyers use to get their well deserving defense clients from going to the death house.
I hate the legal system in the United states.
the cops don’t chase real criminials like murderers and rapists, they spend their fucking with people like me because my pa system was too loud in my apartment in the apartment complex that i live in.
Here i am standing in the doorway in my underwear and the crazy motherfucker wants my ID card and asking me if i am on parole.
I was just waiting for him to force himself into my apartment on some flimsy probable cause doctrine.
I don’t even drink or do drugs………………
FUCKING OINKER…………………………
I live in california in a small town where the state parole department paroles rapists and child molesters and foists them on the unsuspecting public.

Unfortunately psych patients know how to manipulate the mental health system and some of the workers in the mental system, I’ve seen it myself. That is why it is still a revolving door. Some of these patients should not be out on the streets.
For this man it should be mandatory life imprisonment since we can’t put him to death. He deserves no less.
