Neil Young at the Luminato festival?

p2pnet news view Music:- “Amid walls covered in guitars played by rock ‘n’ roll legends, the Luminato Festival announced this year’s musical lineup in Toronto yesterday, unveiling a focus on the art of the guitar that includes a tribute to a seminal Neil Young performance and free shows by strumming stars like Randy Bachman,” says the Globe and Mail.

Neil Young, eh?  Didn’t he recently say, “It is time for industry wide standards of artist’s compensation on the web.”

You know what that means.

And will he himself be at the festival?

Maybe. Maybe not. “But his fans are hoping he will not only turn up but perform one of his own songs,” says the Toronto Star.

Not only but also, Steve Page, ex-Barenaked Ladies lead singer who recently parted ways with the band following a “mutual agreement,” starts his new solo career at Luminato.

Page was arrested after US police, “stumbled upon a car parked across a driveway with its driver-side door open,” said the Canadian Press at the time.  They tracked the license plate to an apartment in Fayetteville, New York, east of Syracus, where they found Page and 25-year-old Stephanie Ford in the kitchen, said the story, going on:

“In a statement to police filed with the court, Ford said the two had just finished snorting what she believed to be cocaine using a rolled-up Canadian bill. She said Page had stored several capsules containing a white powdery substance in a bottle labelled Calcium.”

The drug charges were eventually dropped.

Now,  Page will perform as a solo act, “at a tribute to Neil Young at Massey Hall – already shaping up as potentially the hottest ticket at this year’s Luminato festival of arts and creativity,” says the Toronto Star, going on:

“The impressive list of singer-songwriters, bands and guitarists for this one-time only event on June 10 – a Canadian Songbook celebration of Young’s fabled 1971 concert – includes the Cowboy Junkies, Carol Pope, Sarah Slean, Holly Cole and Jason Collett of the Broken Social Scene.

“They will be performing original arrangements of all 17 songs that Young played on that January night in 1971.

“Also in the lineup announced yesterday are the Bill Frisell Trio, Issa (formerly Jane Jane Siberry), Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian, Colin Linden, Harry Manz, Danny Michel and Roxanne Potvin.”

“Big names” are expected to be confirmed later, the story adds.
