Aberdeen Student Radio ‘piracy’ show

p2pnet news view Radio | Freedom | P2P:- Yesterday, “The corporate movie and music industries have come one giant step closer to having a taxpayer-funded agency set up to look after and enforce their commercial interests and copyrights in Britain,” said p2pnet.

” ‘Ministers intend to pass regulations on internet piracy requiring service providers to tell customers they suspect of illegally downloading films and music that they are breaking the law, says the draft report by Lord Carter,’ according to a recent Financial Times story.

” ‘It would also make them collect data on serious and repeated infringers of copyright law, which would then be made available to music companies or other rights-holders who can produce a court order for them to be handed over’.”

On the air

Joe Farthing of Peer Guardian fame is doing a show on Aberdeen Student Radio, Scotland, tomorrow.

I understand Ray Beckerman is providing a pre-taped segment, and I’ll be there (by phone) for the full two hours.

Subjects? Mainly copyright infringement, peer-to-peer file-sharing and “piracy”

Joe is now looking for a music industry rep to balance things out.

“We want to give the media industry, the peer-to-peer networks, and the supporters and victims on each side of this issue a chance to discuss this openly,” he says. “Here in the UK, I haven’t seen the issue of piracy/downloading discussed on television or radio for quite a while. Yet, it’s more important to discuss it now than at any other time in the last five years: should we give up our privacy to monitor for piracy?

“Should copy-right infringement cases be removed from the judicial system? Are our recording artists in favour of the campaign conducted on their behalf? I don’t expect to answer all of these questions completely in two hours, but I do expect to find our what our listeners think.”

Now Joe is looking for someone from “any record label, independent or not,” to contact him by email with a view to appearing on the show.

Get in touch with him here – technical @ aberdeenstudentradio dot org.

Stay tuned. Literally. ;)

Cheers!

Jon

I doubt he’s going to get anyone,
Joe seems like an intelligent guy with well thought of questions as well as questions from Ray Beckerman..
and we all know how much the music industry loves a good fair discussion or a fair fight ;)
