Cheers and jeers for George W. Bush

p2pnet news view | Politics:- Canadians have the dubious distinction of being the first to pay ex-US president George W. Bush big bucks to make a speech.

It was at a $400-a-head private luncheon co-hosted by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

He’s said to have received $150,000 for his talk, his first since retiring in ignomy.

Plus expenses, of course.

Lessee: 35 minutes into $150,000 (takes socks off to help helped calculations, but gives up).

“After waiting in line for several hours and being searched by security personnel, people dined on spinach salad, chicken breast and red wine,” says the Calgary Sun.

“In his 35-minute speech, Bush drew ties between his childhood in rural Texas and life in rural Alberta, including the common binds of community and family.”

“Before the event even began, protesters like Calgarian Nathan Moulton made their presence known early, shouting to the lineup of 1,500 invited guests snaking along Stephen Avenue in front of the Telus Convention Centre,” says Sun Media, adding:

” ‘You are having lunch with a war criminal,’ he yelled, while walking down the line.

The story has rally organizer Tavis Ford saying protesters came from as far as BC.

“We want to show he is unwelcome but he should have been turned away at the border, and if he did should have been arrested for international crimes,” he said.

Protester Orest Slepokura from Strathmore had a sign comparing disgraced U.S. financier Bernie Madoff to George W. Bush, says the Calgary Herald.

“Of the two, I would say that Bernie Madoff comes off almost saintly by comparison.”

Four people were arrested.

    “Four people were arrested.”

Sadly, none of them was G.W. Bush

The rage on the man’s face was evident as he berated police officers preventing him from entering the building where former U.S. president George W. Bush was making a speech Tuesday. About 60 Calgary police officers were on duty outside to control between 200 and 300 people carrying signs that read “No to U.S. Crimes Against Humanity,” “Indict Bush For War Crimes” and “Canada Is Not Bush Country.” Another sign read “Shoe Him The Door”… There were shoes everywhere during the protest. A young woman wearing a hood, orange jumpsuit and a name tag that said “Club Gitmo” was pulling a shoe cannon along with a target festooned with pictures of Bush.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

A society who arrest the inocents while leting run and geet the criminals is a society on the edge of the clift.

Canadian people have to retake canada just has everyone else in the formerly democratic world have to retake their contries:
