We use Norton at work since it only costs 64 dollars to renew each year for a 50 user license. It works great for us here. The only problems people have is with the XP Antivirus malware. For whatever reason it never catches that.

Stay away from Norton, I have seen it destroy many computers with its so call protection.

Norton is basically malware, the cost of it protecting your system is equal to if not greater than the cost of your computing experience.
if you want a stable computer and wish to pay for AV, switch to another solution, I personally use Kaspersky and love it.
But as others have already stated, don’t put all your trust in your AV. Stuff can still get in and in all truth knowledgeable and responsible computing practices will beat any AV.

being in the IT consulting industry, i usually recommend people AVOID norton like the plague, so much better protection out there that is a fraction of the cost if not free, and always inform the customer that the best antivirus solution is education in knowing what you are actually doing online/downloading/etc, altho now a days even just visiting a regular non-threatening site can pull in an infected add, but again, there are cheap/free safeguards against it, best way to sum up norton tho “how do you uninstall norton?” “Reinstall windows”

and thats why i create my own software for protection
to make sure there crap doesnt get used by someone of a bad nature
as in case SONY ROOTKIT

The antivirus companies may possibly be under gag order from the governments so that they don’t recognize malware planted by police or other government agents (Magic Lantern comes to mind). A similar gag order could come from Sony, so that they do not recognize their malware too.

Don’t trust the antivirus companies too much, practice safe computing yourself. Work as a regular user WITHOUT admin rights, do not install arbitrary software from arbitrary sites, avoid using Microsoft products whenever possible. Working without admin rights will stop nearly all software from infecting your computer (but it will still let the software infect your user profile)

this , form the same group a anti virus people that allowed the sony root kit for a long long long time to propogate , I DONT TRUST YOU THEY DON’T TRUST YOU
and since when does a key generator aka crack become a virus
see they are all in bed together against us, ALL corporations
