Hollywood DVD copying scheme

p2pnet.net News:- Having pilloried 321 Studios for marketing software that allows CD and DVD owners to back up their discs, Hollywood has decided to – Yep – let people back up their discs.

Well, kind of.

IBM, Intel Corporation, Microsoft, Panasonic (Matsushita Electric), Sony, Toshiba, Walt Disney and Warner Bros Studios today announced the formation of the Advanced Access Content System License Administrator (AACS LA) – “a cross-industry effort that develops, promotes and licenses technology designed to enhance digital entertainment experiences”.

Efforts by the record labels and movie studios to develop, or buy, effective DRM systems to stop people from copying DVDs and CDs are failing miserably.

So now, in a typical Hollywood NEVERĀ BEFOREĀ ! puff piece, “Never before has a triumvirate of industry support emerged with such a clear, common vision for growing audience entertainment convenience for anytime, anyplace enjoyment of media without sacrificing the digital rights of artists, studios and content owners,” froths the the Envisioneering Group’s Richard Doherty.

What a load of equine excreta.

“For content providers, content aggregators, and device manufacturers, ADVANCED ACCESS CONTENT SYSTEM will present opportunities for new distribution and business models, while improving functionality and interactivity for the consumer,” says the statement in Hollywood obscure-speak.

“For example, in addition to prerecorded optical disc support, ADVANCED ACCESS CONTENT SYSTEM is being designed to support the users’ ability to make authorized recordings and port content to home-networked and portable devices. Additionally, the consumer will have expanded flexibility in accessing, managing and transferring content within a stand-alone or networked environment.”

“expanded flexibility” —– hmmm Will AACS LA in some way be tied into Broadcast Flag, we wonder?

There was no information on what the technology is or how it works, what kind of limitation will be imposed, how copyrights will be “protected” or the kind of penalties Hollywood will want so it can nail people who get around it, as they inevitably will.

The focus is, “market enablement,” say IBM, et al. “More information on AACS LA and ADVANCED ACCESS CONTENT SYSTEM can be found on the group’s website, http://www.aacsla.com, in the coming days,” it says.

At the time of writing, there was nothing on the site.

Is that prophetic?

In the meanwhile, the first AACS products will be available later this year.

However, rumours that a jointly owned company called 654 Studios will be formed to market ACCS stuff are unfounded.

It doesn’t matter. we will still get around it ; )

The AACS LA already exists, lol. It’s called DVD Decrypter, it’s free, the files can be played ANYWHERE. Silly studios.

    Ain’t that the truth brother!!

I have no intentions of giving up dvd decrypter , dvd shrink, dvd fab or dvd region and css free or my copy of setup any dvd by slysoft.

People in the movie industry just still don’t get it.

It is still illegal for any software maker in the united states to market any type of movie copying software that defeats css.

None of us consumers should not be satisfied until movie copying programs are as common as cd copying or ripping programs.

The mpaa would never agree to amending the perfectly assinine dmca.

Ask robert moore of 321 studios about all of this.

Dvd x copy was not all that good anyway.Matter of fact,it was a ripoff.

It cost hundred dollars for dvd x copy platinum.

I can buy as a burning engine like dvd fab or clone dvd for 40 dollars or setup any dvd by slysoft or dvd region and css for forty dollars and i can get dvd decrypter or dvd shrink for free.

Everything i ever purchased or downloaded off the internet i make cd roms out of them.

This is the downside of living in america.

Everybody hides behind old and archaic copyright and patent law and be a greedy piece of shit.

I can see for many reasons why a lot of countries in the eu are leaning leftward is because a lot of them do not bow to the capitalistic pig alter and have no intentions of honoring past trade or intellectual property agreements forced upon by the money grubbing capitalistic pig entertainment industry.

    What a concept.

If i buy a computer program in the united states ,it is not legally mine and the software company that sold me this software is just merely selling me a license for it’s use under us copyright and patent law.

You know, i have a lot of respect for the chinese.

They do not have any concept of intellectual property in the american sense.

I know this pisses off the entertainment industry.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about the piracy problems the movie and music industry have.

I think it’s funny that the mpaa cannot shut overseas websites that supply people with decss utilities in the united states.

It enough for people in the mpaa to pull their hair out and i enjoy them watching them squirm as they lose profits.

    I LOVE IT!!

Don’t expect any relief from the us congress.

All of them are a bunch silly cunts that take kickbacks and bribes from the entertainment industry.

My opinion about a private industry solution is as outlined.

It is not worth the paper that is written on.

The only way to get a real copying program is purchase one that is chinese made on the internet or the program comes from a country that does not have silly ass laws like the dmca in the united states.

God bless those slant eyed bastards.
