Ban chatrooms, say UK kids
p2pnet.net News:- British children want chatrooms closed down as a protection measure, says Safe from Harm, a new report.
The UK’s Commission for Social Care Inspection spoke with 110 youngster aged between 10 and 18 who, "provided some valuable insight into what they consider to be the main risks to their safety, and how they believe children can be kept safe from harm," it says here.
Safe from Harm found that in addition to worries about chatrooms, the children also wanted:
* Better communication between professionals such as teachers, carers and social workers
* More unannounced inspection visits from authorities
* Increased monitoring visits from social services to homes of young children
* Ensuring social workers and inspectors listen to what children tell them
* Action on reports of abuse immediately and informing police of very serious issues
* Greater security and surveillance around places frequented by young people drugs, abduction and bullying
Other suggestions included extra contact with social workers, treating each child as an individual, not as one of hundreds and expulsion for persistent bullies at school.

children need to be educated to the dangers of chat rooms just like the dangers of dark alleys with strangers. Are we going to have a war on dark alleys? Don’t think so… it’s the people who go there with the intent of harm that are the problem, not the thing itself
